The first time I saw Will Munroe I had him pegged as a typical LA douchebag—a little too handsome, a little too rich, a little too into his probiotic kale smoothies. The next time I ran into him—at his daughter’s parent/teacher conference (me: teacher, he: parent)—I noticed his steel grey eyes, his hard chest under a crisp white button down, and his suggestively bare ring finger. I was hooked.
If life really imitated art, he’d have swept me off my feet and taken me right there on the principal’s desk. Instead, we are stuck in our assigned roles. He’s the workaholic single dad of a precocious girl child, and I’m her fiery substitute teacher. Never the two shall meet. Enter one zany, yurt-dwelling ex-wife, a stock market that never sleeps, and some over-the-top, A-list fundraisers, and I’ve got plenty of drama ahead. Better to keep my hands to myself.
But when Will asks me out for a pancake breakfast, how can I resist? My heart (and my stomach) say yes, but am I willing to risk my job for a short stack and a romp in the hay? A slow, sensual, mind-blowing romp in the hay…
But where there’s a Will…

4.5 stars!
Poppy Dunne has written another fun, lighthearted romantic comedy that is sure to put a smile on your face. Sweet, sexy, and hilarious, this opposites attract story was entertaining from the very first page.
Chelle is an elementary teacher who travels around teaching kids about theater and putting on a production before moving on to the next school. She would love a permanent position and to settle down but since no opportunity has presented itself, she is content doing what she loves, teaching children any chance she can get.
Will is a numbers guy. He’s a stockbroker who takes his job seriously and is great at it. He’s also a father who loves his little girl, Amelia, more than anything in the world and wants to be involved in anyway possible. When Amelia can’t stop raving about Chelle, Will takes notice of his daughter’s new favorite teacher.
Chelle first meets Will when she sets up a meeting to discuss a situation at school concerning Amelia. Immediately they start off on the wrong foot but the attraction they feel can’t be ignored. Soon they end up giving into their desires, heating up the pages as they try to navigate a casual relationship while maintaining professional one. What happens when hearts get thrown into the mix and things are no longer just casual?
This book was a great mix of humor, heart, and sugary sweetness with just the right amount of steam. It’s witty and smart and oh so funny.
I loved Chelle and Will together. They both try to convince themselves they are not attracted to the other and it’s so funny how they fight the obvious draw they feel. The banter is hilarious, and Chelle’s feistiness and Will’s seriousness would seem likely to make things clash between them but on the contrary, they are perfect for each other. They end up opening up to each other and she brings more laughter and lightness into his world and he takes her seriously and loves her quirky nature.
Chelle was such a likable character. I loved her passion for her job and her love and commitment for the children. She loved her family no matter what while still having her own dreams. I completely understood her reservations about starting a relationship with Will as well as her reaction to the ex drama. I loved that she could laugh at the funny stuff in her life and didn’t take everything too seriously. The situations she gets herself into when she is oblivious to things around her and the scatterbrained thoughts that flew through her mind constantly made me giggle.
Will comes off as a jerk in the beginning but we soon find out that he is sweet and has a huge heart. He is sexy and smart, and I loved that though he has a serious job he knows how to let loose. I felt his feelings for Chelle even when he thought he could push them away. I loved that he was willing to go all in and knew what meant the most to him.
Will was an amazing father and I adored his relationship with his daughter, Amelia. Talk about heart-meltingly sweet. Amelia was a beautiful addition to the story. She is loud and energetic but also sweet, caring, and a dreamer. She put a smile on my face and I couldn’t help but love her. Her connection with Chelle was beautiful and I loved that she had a wonderful woman to look up to.
Everything in this book made me smile. It’s an entertaining, well-paced romance that warmed my heart, and I can’t wait to see what Poppy Dunne comes up with next.
