After an unexpected twist of fate, All-Star catcher Easton Wylder is left questioning the loyalty of everyone around him.
Even the woman who shares his bed, Scout Dalton.
But if Easton thought being uprooted to the last place he expected was the only challenge life had to throw at him, he was dead wrong.
With an ailing shoulder and his career in limbo, his decision to make an unexpected change leads him to question everything – Scout’s love, family loyalties, and whether he can conquer the one obstacle he’s never been able to overcome. The secret he’s never shared with anyone.
He may be a man pushed to his limits, but he’s hell-bent on proving his worth no matter the cost.

4.5 “it’s the magic” stars!!
K. Bromberg is a fantastic storyteller. The writing is beautiful and the way she weaves the plot together and mixes POVs gives us an addictive story full of overwhelming emotion, shocking surprises, gut wrenching angst, and a whole lot of heart. I can’t go into much detail without spoiling the first book so I’ll just give you a tidbit. Easton and Scout are back in the second book of The Player Duet by K. Bromberg. After The Player ended with a shocking cliffhanger, I was desperate for The Catch and it did not disappoint. From the very first line I was hooked, especially since that line alone left me stunned and speechless. Everything has fallen apart for Easton and Scout, and there is no clear solution to the chaos surrounding them.
I really enjoyed the conclusion to Easton and Scout’s story. The Catch matches the first book in humor, heat, and heart. My emotions were all over the place and I found the highs and lows of the story affecting me completely. The first twenty-four percent was so intense that my stomach was in knots. I was sick with worry about how things would play out. Once things settled, I was hit with more overwhelming emotion and I couldn’t shake it. I was completely invested in this story and the wonderfully complex characters.
I loved Scout, maybe even more in this book which is surprising because I adored her in the first one. She really shined though. She’s the same smart, strong-willed woman from before but she’s even more courageous and brave as she goes after the things she loves. I love her strength and how she sticks up for herself. She is honest and has a beautiful confidence that warms my heart every time she speaks her mind. I felt her frustration and hurt but also her love. She understood Easton like no other and I loved that she never turned her back on him.
“I want you. All of you. Your flaws. Your mistakes. Your achievements. Your shortcomings. Your love.”
Easton. He is the whole package, on and off the field. He was sweet and totally swoony, but he was also perfectly imperfect. He was vulnerable and needed love. He knew his flaws and it only proved him to be more human. The hurt, frustration, and anger is very real and my heart broke seeing what he went through. His emotions are realistic and heartbreaking as he dealt with so much. There were times that I was frustrated with him but I understood what was going on, and though it did not excuse his actions, I just got it, like Scout got him.
Easton and Scout are absolutely perfect together. The unconditional support and encouragement they offer one another as they work through their own challenges is spectacular and I love that they don’t give up on each other with all the trials they go through.
“Sometimes things happen in life that at the time seem one way, but in reality it’s the magic recharging so you can find it again.”
Like the first book, the banter is fantastic and gave us some lighthearted moments in an otherwise angsty story. The story is fast paced and engaging with secrets and twists that took me by surprise. They are jaw dropping and keep you questioning everything. You can’t possibly think things can get any worse when another twist blindsides you. Over and over again.
This story is gut wrenching and heart breaking but by the end, my heart was healed and filled with so much love that I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. The epilogue is beautiful and nicely wraps up the story in a believable and wonderful way and I wouldn’t change a thing. I loved it!
