Most Valuable Playboy was one of my favorite reads of 2017 so you can imagine how excited I was to get my hands on Most Likely to Score, another standalone sports romance from Lauren Blakely. I dove right in and it delivered a fun, sweet, and steamy forbidden romance that I instantly loved!
Jones is known for his action on – and off – the field and it is time to clean up his act and get a new agent. With some photos going around the internet that don’t show Jones at his best, who better to help turn the tables than Jillian, the team’s publicist with the ability to work magic.
Jillian loves her job as the Renegades publicist. When an opportunity arises that could boost her chances at a job promotion she jumps on it. The only problem is that it’ll put her in close proximity to Jones, the player she has been crushing on since he joined the team, and jumping him isn’t a good idea for either of them.
However, the more time Jones and Jillian spend together, the more they can’t stay away. After sharing a wonderful weekend full of passion, it ends too soon when they get back to San Francisco. They can’t risk her job, his reputation, or his sponsorships, so they go back to keeping their hands to themselves. Only, it’s harder to let go of something after you’ve had a taste.
I love forbidden romances and this one was right up my alley. It made me laugh, swoon, and sigh, and even a little nervous while I was rooting for Jones and Jillian’s HEA.
It feels like a line in the sand.
A line I shouldn’t cross.
It marks the before and after. But I want to know what comes next. I want to venture into this dangerous territory.
Jones was cocky, confident, and sexy but he has a super sweet and sensitive side that was a pleasant change from typical playboy ways. Even though he has questionable past hook-ups, I love that it’s not thrown in our faces. We see him for who he really is and he was a great guy. He has a lot of emotions running through his head that were realistic and believable and as always, Lauren Blakely does a stellar job at writing a guy’s POV. Getting into his head was fun and loved that he was all about Jillian. His wonderful animal loving side is so endearing, too and I couldn’t help but swoon.
I loved Jillian. She’s hardworking and confident but has a sassy side that put a smile on my face. She knew what she wanted but I loved that she really thought about what her actions would do. She made rational decisions while still being true to her heart. Her feelings were real and I loved how strongly she felt for Jones.
I could feel the desire simmering between Jones and Jillian whenever they were in the same room. The sexual tension is off the charts and the attraction is there from the beginning but their relationship actually sneaks up on them.
“What would it be like if we didn’t work together?”
His words hang in the air like sweet smoke.
Like possibility.
They’ve wanted one another for so long but they didn’t really know each other well enough to know there could be something solid between them especially because of the roadblocks preventing them from pursuing anything. The forbidden aspect was well-done and believable. The fears, hesitations, and longing that come with wanting what you can’t have was consuming. As they discover who the other truly is, they find a connection that is so much more than just physical. They are wonderful together and I loved watching them fall.
Miami wasn’t a fling. Miami wasn’t a no-strings-attached dalliance for either one of us. That trip across the country was the start of everything, and I want to take him back and make him all mine again, with no consequences, no risk, and no fallout. I want it all, without anyone getting hurt.
The playful moments, the sweet interactions, the sexy times, and the desire that drives them to try and make things work between them put a smile on my face. Only after we are invested in Jones and Jillian’s relationship do we get a smidgen of drama thrown in, mixing things up a bit. Luckily, I wasn’t left waiting long for a resolution and the epilogues made me giddy. Get ready to laugh, smile, and swoon because Lauren Blakely scored with this one!

He runs his hand through his hair, flashing a lopsided grin then a wink. “Sorry. I meant are you my personal PR person now?”
That word zips through me like an electric charge. A light gust of wind blows my hair across my cheeks, and I tuck the strands behind my ear, grateful for the temporary distraction courtesy of San Francisco’s windy morning. I shiver lightly from the chill. “Yes, that seems to be the case, and I’m happy to do it.”
He cocks his head to the side. “Are you like my babysitter?”
My jaw drops. “What? No. No. No. That’s ridiculous. I’m not a babysitter.”
He arches a brow. “A nanny?”
I smirk. “Jones, I would hope you’ve outgrown the need for a nanny.”
“That’s up for debate, it seems. But maybe you’re my governess?”
I roll my eyes and gesture to the car at the curb. “I’m not your nanny, I’m not your babysitter, and I’m definitely not your governess. I’m here to help you create the best image possible. I can market, publicize, and help you manage putting the best foot forward,” I say, my tone earnest, my meaning important. “I believe in what I do. I know you’re a great guy, and I want the world to see what I’ve seen in the last couple days.”
“Yeah?”
“That’s why I said yes when Ford asked for my help. I’m not interested in being anyone’s au pair. I am very interested, though, in showing this city what good things our team does on and off the field. Including you.” I take a breath and try to read him. To understand what’s beneath the teasing. I think I know what it is. He wants a choice. “But if you don’t want me to help out, I’ll step back and we can stick to just the calendar. I told Ford I’d do this for your new deal, because I want to be the one to help you if you need it, and it’s the kind of help I can give. Since you signed the contract yesterday, and the folks at Paleo Pet are local, they want to stop by the shoot later today. Take some pictures, chat, and so on. I’m happy to be there by your side the whole time, making sure you’re comfortable with everything, and you’re represented in the best way possible. But if those aren’t your wishes, and if it isn’t what you need, then I’ll be hands-off. I hold up my palms as if I’m backing away.
In a heartbeat, he grabs my wrists. Possessively. A thrill rushes through me, like a drumbeat pulsing in my veins. I look away from him briefly. I can’t make eye contact when he does this, when he touches me. If I do, he’ll know. He’ll realize I’m just like all the other women who fling panties at him, who chase him down in bars, who line up at the players’ entrance to become his football floozy for the night.
