5 stars!

There is a reason that Mia Sheridan is one of my auto-buy authors. She continues to amaze me with the originality of her stories and Savaged is no exception. The suspense, twists, and intricacies create a captivating murder mystery that will grab you from the first page and keep you guessing until the end. It’s a breathtaking story of survival, strength, and love that consumed me completely, firmly placing this book in my favorites pile.

Jak and Harper lived through some terrifying situations that shaped them into the people they are today. They had to survive and did it the best way they knew how. When they are brought together because of a murder case, no one expected the strong friendship that forms. They wipe away the loneliness that had been their constant companions and accept each other for who they are no matter their differences. I loved watching their feelings grow into more as they open their hearts to each other, and the butterflies, excitement, nervousness, and fear was believable.

When did it happen? she wondered, trying to pinpoint the exact moment she had fallen. It should have been . . . momentous, wasn’t that true? But no, she realized dreamily, it hadn’t been one singular stopping of time. It was a beautiful string of moments, each one opening her heart to him little by little.

I loved Jak and Harper together. From the moment they meet there is a connection. It doesn’t make sense but it’s there and it’s real. Their love is innocent, pure, and fierce. The romance is beautiful but it’s the overall love story between these two amazingly resilient and endearing characters that is utterly breathtaking.

“Did you know the trees speak to each other?”
She wrinkled her brow. “No.”
“They do. They tell secrets in their roots, those deep, dark places that can’t be seen. I think we’re like that too. We know things deep, deep down, secret things,
ancient things, that whisper through us, one to the other. You whispered to me. And I whispered back. You heard, didn’t you?”
Her heart beat with love for him, at the sweetness of what he’d said. She nodded. “Yes, I heard.”

Savaged isn’t just about Jak and Harper, the secondary characters are also important. Each character has their own history and their own trials. Uncovering the truths of their lives was intriguing and captivating, adding more layers to the already wonderfully complex story.

The mystery aspect is complicated and well thought out. The prologue draws you in and sets the stage for a gripping and suspenseful tale. I had questions galore and my desire to know the who’s, how’s, why’s, and what’s was immense. I was desperate to make connections and get the answers, and I couldn’t put it down.

The story flips between different third person POVs and each one brings vital information to the picture.  Every piece of the puzzle is uncovered slowly and methodically to deliver the mystery in a way that draws you in and keeps you there. It’s thrilling and shocking, and I loved seeing everything come to light as jaw-dropping twists are revealed and the truth is finally discovered.

Overall, this book is a winner. Mia Sheridan effortlessly blends mystery, suspense, and romance to create another phenomenal read, and it’s no surprise that Savaged joins the list of my top favorites of 2019.
