4 stars!
“Somethings are meant to be and will find a way no matter the circumstances.”
On the morning Thea is supposed to go home from a business trip to Vegas, she wakes up with a ring on her finger. Now married to the object of her affection, it’s nothing like she imagined. Sure she has dreamt of marrying Xander, her brother’s best friend, for forever but he has always been off limits, and now fearing her brothers reaction and the fact that she is only nineteen, she wants an annulment immediately.
Xander has wanted Thea for as long as he can remember and now that he has her he is determined to not lose her. He is glad they jumped into marriage because it allowed them to take that first step. He wants the marriage to be real and is willing to do pretty much anything to keep her as his wife.
“Give me the summer to prove that this is more than some stupid mistake,” he grates on the word, “and if at the end of the summer you still want a divorce then I’ll sign whatever you want me to.”
Thea is hesitant to try to make this marriage work for a number of reasons. Their connection is undeniable though and the sexual tension is thick as Thea realizes that Xander truly wants things to work between them and that she should take a chance on him.
I lean my head against the wall, looking up into his dark eyes. They’ve always looked at me with such…sweetness and maybe the occasional hint of lust or desire, but right now, he looks at me like I’m the answer to every question he’s ever had.
What follows is the happenings of a new relationship that is awkward at times, but definitely sweet, steamy, and funny with a small dose of angst. While trying to make things work, Thea and Xander have to figure out if they are truly meant to be. Navigating a marriage isn’t easy and they find themselves with difficult choices that will enevitabely change their lives forever.
Xander and I are like two stars colliding – I always thought we’d turn into a black hole, but right now, in this moment, I see that’s not it at all. No, We’ve simply merged into one, making a larger, more magnificent star
I really enjoyed When Stars Collide written by Micalea Smeltzer. Though it is part of her Light in the Dark series, it can easliy be read as a standalone. The plot includes two tropes that I absolutely love: “brothers-best-friend” and “surprise Vegas wedding,” and I loved how they were written together. There is just enough angst to go along with the light-heartedness of this book giving us a sweet, fast-paced read.
I adored Xander from the beginning. I loved how supportive and loyal he was towards Thea and that he never questioned the marriage. I loved seeing that he was all in from the start and that he was confident in his feelings. He made me swoon on numerous occasions leaving my heart fluttering and I thought he was a great match for Thea.
I really liked Thea and thought she was well written as a nineteen year old. I imagine feeling exactly the way she did and the fears she had when she woke up married. I understood her reservations about being married but I am glad that she was able to over come them. She loved with her whole heart and felt so much for Xander. I did think Thea’s thoughts were repetitive at times in the beginning and I wish there wasn’t quite as much back an forth; however, I loved that once they decided to really make things real, they really worked on their relationship.
I am glad the drama wasn’t really of their doing but rather external forces that were against them. I loved that they stood united when they decided to really try to make things work and that they talked and took things day by day while they actually worked on their relationship.
Overall, When Stars Collide was an enjoyable read with a very sweet love story and a beautiful ending. And after meeting Jace and Nova in this books, I can’t wait for their story!
