“Hope strengthens. Fear kills.”

Holy fecking hell! The third book in the Fever series brings about some huge changes as KMM’s darkly magical story twists even further. We finally start to get some answers, but at the same time, start asking a lot more questions as everything is pushed to a whole new level of awesomeness.

Mac continues to evolve – getting smarter and tougher, she is a badass, fae-killing machine. She’s really coming into her own now, sick of unanswered questions and not knowing who to trust, she is making her own alliances, and I love her feisty nature.

Her relationship with Barrons is also changing as she asserts her independence from him, and he starts to see her as more than who he thought she was, and the dynamic is sensational. Barrons is still a ruthless hardass, but we are starting to see changes in him as he reacts to Mac 3.0, and the UST between them just gets more and more intense, and every little moment between them just sizzles.

He was so close, his body electric, his expression savage.
I moistened my lips. His gaze fixed on them. I think I stopped breathing.
He jerked so sharply away that his long dark coat sliced air, and turned his back to me.
“Was that an invitation, Ms.Lane?”
“If it was?” I asked, astonishing myself. What did I think I was doing?
“I don’t do hypotheticals. Little girl.”

There is more time with V’lane, Christian and Dani, and we get a lot of background about the fae, discover more about the Sinsar Dubh, and Mac discovers chilling evidence of her sister’s time in Dublin. The pieces are all coming together, and just when you think you’ve got a handle on what’s happening, KMM pulls the rug out from under us and throws her entire world into chaos.

“Turned out I was wrong. It wasn’t the dark I should have been afraid of, at all.”

As always, the mood is dark and sinister, and the writing is smooth and beautifully poetic. And with an ending that is both disturbing and horrifying, this cliffy will have you diving for the next book, where things only continue to get better! And I say – Bring. It. On!

4.5 stars.
