WHAT THE HELL DID I JUST READ???

Holy shit, I can’t believe all that went down in this book! Seriously! This whole book is a MASSIVE game changer for the series! My head is reeling from the awesome!

I’m going to try and keep this vague, but there will be some spoilers if you haven’t read the previous books.

This book picks up straight after the hideous cliffhanger in Opal that left fans of the series tearing their hair out and screaming out “WHYYYYYYY????”. JLA makes it up to us by giving us dual POV for the first time. And It. Is. Awesome!!! Daemon Black is in brilliant form – gorgeously sarcastic, arrogant and protective, and he is a Luxen on a mission to save his girl.

“Did you think you could stop me?” Power shot from me, smacking into the door… blowing it off the hinges and into the house. “I’ll burn the world down to save her.”

Katy is in the hands of the Daedalus and is trying her hardest not to crumble, despite all that she is subjected to – and, wow, it’s bad! I love that despite the hopelessness that she feels, she stays strong and her badassness gets a chance to shine.

But thank God, it doesn’t take too long for our separated lovers to be reunited, and even though the way it all came about was a surprise, yes, it was just as beautifully epic as I wanted it to be.

“You’re my – you’re my everything, Kat … I love you.”

But their reunion is just the trigger for things to really kick up a notch, and holy shit! Faced with hideous torture, massive secrets, and the mysterious ‘Origin’, there is so much going on. Added to that, that you don’t exactly know what the truth is, or who is a good guy and who is the enemy.

But through it all, Daemon is his usual, snarky self…

“This is good.”
“Why is it good?” I asked.
He pulled out a stethoscope. “It’s a good indication that the mutation is on a perfect, cellular level.”
“Or an indication that I’m pretty damn awesome,” Daemon suggested coolly.

But he also pulls out the swoon for some epic, epic romance that had me clutching my heart!

I have no idea how I’m going to fix all of that, but I will. I will keep you safe. I will make sure that we have a future to hold on to and look forward to … I promise you.”

“She was beautiful, and I was so, so desperately in love with her.
Her chin jerked up, and she sucked in a breath, eyes widening.
Okay, I may have actually thought that last bit at her.
You did. A small smile split her lips.

I love how strong Katy and Daemon are together. There is SO much happening in this book, but thank God, there is no relationship drama! There is never any doubt about the two of them and how committed they are to each other, and there are some gorgeous scenes between the two of them.

The story moves along at a great pace. And there were moments where I was staring open mouthed at my kindle, disbelieving at what I just read. Twists, turns, and massive shocks are sprinkled throughout a storyline that is so full of action, I thought I was in the middle of a Bruckheimer movie!

Honestly, I felt like I barely took a breath as the action hit its climax, and my heart was absolutely pounding. Just… DAMN!

“All right … anyone who gets into one of these cars outside is in it for the long haul … If you even think you’re not ready to put your life on the line for everyone here, then you stay behind. If you screw us out there, I will end you.” He flashed a rather charming smile. “And I will probably enjoy it.”

MASSIVE. GAMECHANGER!!!!!

The fact that we have to wait so long in between books does ruin the momentum a little bit, but it didn’t take me too long to get into it. It carries on the feel of the earlier books in the series with the humour, romance, and the unfolding drama and intrigue of the world of the Luxen, and, of course, the action is insane! This is a fantastic bunch of characters, and even though not everybody makes it out alive (*GASP*), I loved the time we got to spend with the extended cast. Luc has a prominent role, and we finally get some answers about him, as well as the introduction of Archer, who I really liked, and who fits in with the group brilliantly.

“I’m Dee Black. I’m the sister of the douchebag known as Daemon.” She smiled brightly. “But you probably already know that.”
“That’s he’s a douchebag or that he’s your brother?” Archer asked innocently. “The answer is yes to both.”

I love this book! It was a sensational ride from start to finish and absolutely rocked my world, and even though we are left with yet ANOTHER cliffy (GODAMMIT!), it’s not as painful as the last – I wasn’t left devastated, but definitely with more questions about what could possibly be going on, and excited beyond belief for the next book.

JLA, you are the queen of YA PNR. I worship at your feet!

5 sensational stars.
