“The safest place for her was with him, yet it was also the most dangerous to her heart.”

A wild and exciting ride – 4 stars

A spin off to the sensational Sin Brothers series, this book is exciting, intriguing and suspenseful with wonderful characters, great action, and a feisty, sexy romance. It’s a wild ride from start to finish, and I loved it!

Ryker Jones and his ‘blood brothers’ have lived their lives on the run since they escaped a brutal boys’ home as teenagers. With unusual abilities, they put their skills to use finding missing people, while also searching for answers to their pasts – what happened to their families? Why were three boys with such amazing talents all placed together in the one house? And who was the mysterious woman who came to ‘study’ them?

They have put down roots for the first time in their lives – temporary only while they search for a serial killer – and they just happen to have ‘settled’ in the town where Zara Remington lives. Ryker and Zara met when he was employed as a P.I. by her firm. They formed a no-strings arrangement whenever Ryker was in town, but now months later, with Ryker in town on a more permanent basis, neither of them can deny what has been building between them.

But their lives are full of secrets – secrets which they are both reluctant to share in order to protect themselves, and each other. And while Zara is all about pushing Ryker away to protect heart, Ryker has no intention of going anywhere.

“Listen, Ryker. I’m giving you an easy out here. Take it,” she snapped.
“I don’t want out.”
Her head jerked. “Casual sex doesn’t work for me any longer.”
“There ain’t nothin’ casual about our sex, and you know it.”

Yes, there’s some push and pull, but the chemistry between these two is absolutely electric and I loved their interactions. And Ryker is such an alpha, there’s no way he’s going to allow Zara to keep him at arm’s length so it doesn’t get annoying at all. The romance is sexy and intense yet slow-developing, and I loved the interplay and protectiveness that these two shared.

“I’m not letting you run, and I’m certainly not letting you hide.”

“This is different, right?”…
His gaze darkened. “Yeah, baby. This is just you and me… It’s better than anything else in the world.”

They are slowly finding their way forward, figuring out what they want and what they mean to each other, and the intensity between them is only enhanced by the action and intrigue that is about to engulf them. Zara’s already got a lot going on, and Ryker’s life is all kinds of messed up. Add to that a mysterious client who shows up looking to hire the Jones boys, and a whole heap of complication and even more questions are about to overtake all of their lives.

It’s a complex and intense story with multiple plotlines running throughout, but it’s a wild ride! I thought the book took a little while to really hit its stride, but once everything is in motion there are lots of twists and turns and it’s all woven together so cleverly, and I was totally absorbed into the story wondering where it was going and how it was all going to work out.

Ryker and his brothers, Denver and Heath are absolutely fantastic. Each with their own demons, but fiercely loyal and protective of each other, I loved their dynamic – and the further additions to the group just add even more awesomeness. And there’s a wonderful tie-in with Dean boys all showing up to be a part of the action, and I LOVED seeing them again – as well as a couple of other surprises.

Speaking of the Dean boys – while it’s not necessary to have read the Sin Brothers books before reading this one, I would definitely recommend it. Those books have an in-depth storyline, and while this one does stand alone, I think it would be more enjoyable if you had the backstory. Plus, this book has MASSIVE spoilers for the Sin Brothers books, so if you’re planning on reading them at some stage – do it before starting this one.

I really enjoyed this book. Ryker and Zara’s story is finished off really nicely, but there is SO much more story to be told for these characters! I’m looking forward to reading more about Denver and Heath who both have a bit of a romantic set up already, and I can’t wait to see where this series is going to go next.

4 stars.
