I loved it! 4.5 stars!!
I loved this book! A fun, sexy and heartfelt enemies-to-lovers romance between a hot, Hollywood superstar and his pervy neighbour that has sworn off love. This book completely captivated me and made me fall in love, and I loved every moment of it!
This book is a standalone but it does follow on from To Love Jason Thorn. It’s the story of Olive’s vivacious best friend, Lucy. She has just been dumped and has moved in with Olive and her Hollywood heartthrob husband, Jason, to recover from being a “victim of love” and find her feet again. Olive and Jason’s new neighbour is fellow Hollywood star and media-magnet, Adam Connor. He has just divorced his starlet wife and has moved in next door with his adorable 5 year old son, Aiden, and Lucy’s newest favourite thing is watching them over the fence.
Let’s be honest here, wouldn’t you wanna take a peek over the wall to catch a glimpse of him, hopefully when he is naked? Wouldn’t you melt away after watching him work out as his five-year-old kid cheered him on? Do I even have to mention those abs, the big bulge in his pants, or that arm porn? Oh, wait, you would never spy on him? Sure…
While secretly watching them one day, she sees Aiden in trouble and she leaps over the fence to help him. Mistaking her for a crazed stalker, Jason called the Police and Lucy ends up in a holding cell – thus sparking an intense hatred between them, and OMG, the animosity between these two is so funny!
Looking down at his feet, he murmured, “We came to see Lucy because I don’t want her to hate me.”
“So? Do you hate me?” he asked Lucy, his arm tightening around my leg as he waited for his answer.
“Nope.”
“Not even a little?”
“Not even a little. In fact, I’m very happy to see you again.”
Happy with the answers he was getting, Aiden let go of my leg and stood in front of Lucy. “You are?”
“Yes. I was worried about you after I left, so it’s good to see you here, standing strong.”
Charmed by her, Aiden threw his arms around her neck and awkwardly hugged her. “I don’t hate you either. I promise. Not like my dad does.”
That earned me another look.
Oh, the joys of having a very honest five-year-old.
It’s little Aiden that draws them together. He and Lucy bond immediately, and when Adam runs into difficulty finding a babysitter for him, Lucy steps in to help, and it’s not too long before all that anger turns into a different kind of passion and Adam and Lucy find themselves frustratingly attracted to each other. But while Adam is keen to explore what’s happening between them, Lucy believes that her bad luck with men is the result of a curse which leaves the women in her family unable to maintain a long-term relationship – so she’s adamant that it’s never going to happen.
“You can’t look at me like that.”
“Why not?”
“Because I’m not supposed to like you.”
“But I like you very much, Lucy.”
The chemistry and sexual tension between Adam and Lucy is fantastic, and the flirty banter is lots of fun. Adam pushes, Lucy counters, and each time their interactions become flirtier, dirtier and more intense until they truly start to fall for each other and Adam decides he has had enough of Lucy’s excuses.
“Let’s not play games, Lucy.
I want your heart and I will have it.”
This is a gorgeously developing romance – fun and flirty with great chemistry, realistic pacing and lots of heart. And the sexy time! Oh my God, it’s so freaking hot! Adam and Lucy are both dirty talkers, and Adam is well equipped and knows how to drive Lucy wild, and the sex scenes in this book left me fanning myself! Damn… truly. But it’s the love story that is definitely the focus, and the emotion between Adam and Lucy shines through every moment they are together, and the swoon is gorgeous!
“I’ll hold you up, Lucy. You can trust me. I see who you are. I see who are, and I want you to choose me. I want you to open your eyes and look at me so you can see that I have what it takes, that I can take care of heart for you.”
I love Adam so much! He’s strong, stubborn and determined to get his girl, but there’s a softness to him that is beautiful. He is a deeply caring man with a huge heart, and seeing him with little Aiden absolutely melted me! Aiden is a total scene-stealer, and I loved how involved he was in the story. He truly was a part of Adam and Lucy’s lives, and I love how his importance was never underplayed.
She was our Lucy, Aiden’s and mine.
Lucy started off a little whiney and immature, but she grew on me. Her growth as a character was really well done as she learned to trust Adam and let go with him, and I like that she kept a bit of her craziness
“I hope you’re the hero of my story, because I deserve to be loved, goddamit.”
Adam and Lucy’s romance unfolds amidst the crazy of celebrity, which provides its own set of problems, and they have the added stress of some pretty significant (yet still realistic and thankfully not-annoying) drama with ex-partners and with little Aiden. It all works together to create some additional interest and intensity in the story, and though the romance definitely would have been enough to carry the book, I loved that there was so much happening. It ties in really nicely with everything that develops between Adam and Lucy and kept me reading madly to see how it was all going to play out.
Olive and Jason feature fairly prominently in the story, and though this book could be read as a standalone, I’d recommend reading that one first so you know their history. But this book stands strongly on its own – a fun, sweet, sexy, swoony love story with a bit of drama and a gorgeous epilogue.
I absolutely loved it – 4.5 stars.
