Woohoo!!! This was pure awesome!!!
As a big fan of Vampire Academy, morally I should be appalled at the similarities to be found in this series, but I can’t help myself, I got completely sucked in and carried away. I read it in a day!
Alex is a kickass heroine, but when we first see her, she is struggling to deal with the events from the end of Half-Blood. She is still training to become a sentinel, and trying to figure out what it means to be the next Apollyon. But then a brutal daimon attack on the Covenant leaves her even more shattered. But she Alex, Aiden and Seth have other problems – Alex’s trial with the Council. Suddenly thrust into the political hub of their world, the intrigue builds as Alex finds herself under almost constant attack, but from who?
So much happens in this book! I laughed, I cried, I squeed. There are lots of surprises along the way and the mystery deepens as conspiracies are uncovered, and the boys go all out to protect Alex from an obvious threat. And of course I was absolutely bowled over by the kickass ending. So freaking awesome!
On a side note – I’m not a huge fan of love triangles, but I’ve gotta say that this love triangle has me very intrigued. After the last book I was Aiden all the way, but must admit, Seth is starting to grow on me!!! He is arrogant, funny, and obviously cares for Alex. Plus, of course, they share the special bond as the Apollyon and Apollyon-to-be.
“I guess there were two types of people in the world, those who sat around a fire, staring into the flames, and those who started the fire.
Seth and I started the fire, and then we danced around it.”
My feelings have probably been swayed as Seth was a much larger presence in this book due to Aiden pulling away from Alex and their forbidden attraction. But despite being all cold and standoff-ish to her throughout the book, I’m still definitely team Aiden. But can they ever find a way to be together???
“Ever since I’ve met you, I’ve wanted to break every rule.” Aiden turned away, the muscles in his neck tensing. He sighed. “You’ll become the centre of someone’s world one day. And he’ll be the luckiest son of a bitch on this earth.”
There is a mild cliffhanger, and I have some suspicions about where the series may go from here, but for the sake of avoiding spoilers, I’m keeping my theories to myself. If you haven’t gotten into this series yet – DO IT… DO IT NOW!!!
