A standalone romance from the New York Times Bestselling author of Black Lies and Hollywood Dirt…
I hired her to fix my company, to bring Marks Lingerie back to life. I didn’t expect her to become my friend. I didn’t expect to fall in love with her.
The first rule of business is to never touch your employees. I think there is another rule about not falling for your best friend—a rule against imagining the curves of her body, or the way her breathing would change if I pulled down her panties and unzipped my pants.
Now, I can’t wait any longer. I’m tossing out the rules.
Damn the company.
Damn our friendship.
Damn my fears.
Review
4.5 “slow burn” stars!
Love in Lingerie by Alessandra Torre has heart, humor, and heaps of steam and I loved it. It’s sexy, romantic, angsty, a little bit dirty, and oh, so good. The wonderfully paced story draws you in until you are completely invested in the fantastically well-developed characters. The steamy chemistry, crazy sexual tension, heart-aching angst, and emotional love made for an entertaining and addictive read that is easily a new favorite of mine.
Trey Marks owns Marks Lingerie and is desperate for a Creative Director who can help get his struggling company back on its feet. Enter Kate Martin. She hates her current job and is in need of a new one. One that will get her creative juices flowing. She just doesn’t know that the man behind the desk would change her life completely.
He doesn’t just reek of trouble. The damn man is dipped in temptation, the center of it all radiating out of those eyes.
When Kate gets the job, she fully is committed to saving his company. She proves she can handle whatever is thrown her way, including the attraction they can’t deny. Acting on the pull that drives them crazy is out of the question so they enter into a friendship that will end up being everything to them. As they grow closer, the more they get to know each other the more they realize you can’t judge a book by its cover.
Love in Lingerie is utterly delicious and I loved every bit of it, even when it hurt! The connection between Trey and Kate was breathtaking. The depth of their friendship and even deeper love was gorgeous. I loved the nature of their relationship and the banter was sensational and added a nice dose of humor. They were wonderful together and I loved how they showed their strengths and challenged each other.
If this woman was lingerie, she’d be black leather, with studs along the seams and enough of a dominatrix vibe to give a man pause.
If this woman was lingerie, I’d strip it off and then properly show her who was in charge.
Kate and Trey were also exceptional characters individually. I loved Kate. She was beautiful, smart, witty, and strong-willed. She was confident, irresistible, and instantly likable. She had a beautiful heart and I loved who she was as a person. Great at her job, Kate was exactly what Trey needed to turn the company around and I could vividly picture them working side by side.
Trey was fantastic. He is sweet, generous, and hard working. He is also sexy and gorgeous with a dirty mind and dirty mouth. I understand why Kate was hot for him, I was too. He knew who he was and owned his decisions. There were things about his life that could ruin their relationship from the start and I hated that he felt the need to keep secrets, but I understood it and think it all came out when it was supposed to.
He should have told me this. He should have told me this years ago, before I fell in love with him, before he injected his soul into my veins and I became addicted.
The attraction was there from the beginning and though their chemistry was scorching, it is slow burning and so well done. It’s a forbidden romance that will have your emotions going crazy. There is so much pent up sexual tension pulsating from the pages, it makes your heart race, body tingle, and your breath hitch. It can also make you frustrated, desperately searching for relief. It was realistic and I could actually feel the tension with every interaction.
When a kiss waits for a thousand days, it erupts like a cyclone – a slow unfurling of lips, of tongues, hands ripping, clothes flying, hot swirls of breath met with a clash of frantic desire.
This story has its fair share of angst and heartache that is painful to watch and I literally cried for them. I ached for their happiness and in the end, the timing turned out to be perfect, just like the fireworks that filled my heart when they finally took the leap. The trust, acceptance, forgiveness and love healed my heart and made all the angst and drama of the past worth experiencing to find a love like theirs.
I have to comment on Trey’s list…talk about swoon worthy! *sigh* The epilogue left me with happy tears streaking down my face and was a perfect ending to this emotional story.
I’d never believed in fairytales, but this man – he is my prince, my future, my everything.
