Nothing good comes after the third date.
See, date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he gets weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.
Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.
So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked and can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.
Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

4 “boy crazy” stars
Bad Penny by Staci Hart is fun, sweet, and oh, so steamy! This unique rom com is an addictive read that will make you laugh, swoon, and smile.
Penny is totally boy crazy. She loves hooking up and doesn’t want to change. She is open, confident, honest, and bold. She knows what she wants and knows what she doesn’t want.
I uncapped my lipstick, a dark red matte called Heartbreaker. It couldn’t have been more accurate of a shade for me and not just because of my skin tone.
See, I didn’t do serious or permanent, not with my hair color and not with my boys.
In the past, Penny always found herself either running away from clingy men or clinging like crazy herself, both of which she doesn’t want when it comes to relationships. She can’t find the middle ground so she refuses to try for more than a quick fling, avoiding the messy stuff. She’s been burned in the past and a broken heart is something she doesn’t want to experience again.
I wanted zero commitment. I wanted the fun and the thrill and to call it before things got messy. Sticky. I always skipped out the door before those pesky old feelings got involved and wrecked the whole train.
…
I wish I could let myself fall helplessly in love, but I’d done that once, and when it had ended and I had been left alone to put myself back together, I’d known without a doubt that love wasn’t for me.
Then Penny meets Bodie and everything changes. There is something that draws her to him and feels familiar. When one hot night turns into another, Penny finds her approaching her three-date limit faster than she’d like. What happens when Penny’s rules are thrown out the window and hearts get involved?
I really enjoyed Penny. She was hilarious and had no filter. She cracked me up throughout the story with all the things that popped into her head and came out of her mouth.
Bodie is a breath of fresh air. He’s super hot, super nerdy, and a total sweetheart. He knows exactly what he wants – Penny – but refuses to push her. He was completely committed to her and let’s her lead while he keeps his feelings under wraps so she doesn’t get spooked. I loved his cheesy math jokes and pickup lines. They had a way of lightening the mood and putting a smile on my face.
“Hey, Penny?” I asked, my voice low and rough.
“Hmm?” she hummed against my chest.
“Are you the square root of negative one? Because you can’t be real.”
There was insta-lust but the love snuck up on Penny. What was supposed to be fun and easy ended up the opposite and I thought the relationship was well written. It wasn’t supposed to be intimate and I loved watching it become so much more than just another hookup.
I loved watching Penny fall for Bodie no matter how hard she fought to keep her rules. The intense emotions were consuming and the way they were wrapped up in each other left a smile on my face. Penny couldn’t see what was truly going on and the feelings that grew were real no matter how unrealistic her rules were.
Bodie and Penny are crazy hot together. The chemistry is sizzling, and there’s a lot of sexy times, all of which were intense and sure to leave you fanning yourself. The connection was strong even when they denied it. When things start shifting, I loved watching the realization set it. I dreaded the confrontation and it ripped my heart out when the inevitable occurred. It was hard watching them deal the challenges they faced and I wasn’t sure if they would be able to find their way back to each other.
Penny was a white-hot flame, and I was made of wax. Holding her would ruin me.
The growth that Penny had to go through to finally grasp the happiness she deserved was wonderful though and I knew she needed to experience the pain to realize what she truly wanted.
Overall, Bad Penny is a fantastic addition to the rom com world and another Staci Hart hit!

About the Author
Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife, though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey.
From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
