They call him The Mute for a reason.
Hard, cold and calculated, he rarely speaks.
When he does, it’s with disdain.
When he does, his words aren’t meant for me.
When he does, my stomach flips and my world tilts on its axis.
He is thirty-three.
I am eighteen.
He’s a single dad and my father’s business partner.
I’m just a kid to him and his enemy’s daughter.
He’s emotionally unavailable.
And I am…feeling. Feeling things I shouldn’t feel for him.
Trent Rexroth is going to break my heart. The writing isn’t just on the wall, it’s inked on my soul.
And yet, I can’t stay away.
A scandal is the last thing my family needs. But a scandal is what we’re going to give them.
And oh, what a beautiful chaos it will be.

4.5 stars!
The HotHoles are back and holy hell, Scandalous is definitely scandalous. Passionate, intense, enthralling, and tantalizing, I loved every bit of this enemies-to-lovers story.
Trent wasn’t dealt the best cards when it came to his life, and his dreams were ripped from his hands when he was younger. He has since had to deal with all of the fallouts that happened in his lifetime and he is determined more than ever to make a life for him and his daughter.
Edie Van Der Zee comes from money but doesn’t live the life everyone assumes she does. She has a secret she doesn’t talk about and it is the driving force behind her actions. When one reckless decision puts her in the path of Trent Rexroth, her life is forever changed.
Trent works with Edie’s father and to say they hate each other is a vast understatement. They are enemies and that fact alone makes Edie an enemy too. When Edie’s father brings her on as an employee, the tension between Trent and Edie flickers to life and before long there is a scorching fire burning between them. What happens when they know they will end up being the other’s ruin yet they can’t keep their hands off each other?
I loved Scandalous! It is fast passed, captivating, and oh, so good! From the first page to the last I was invested in this story. Trent and Edie are not your average characters and I loved that they had so many layers. They are so much more complicated than what they let the world see.
Everyone knows Trent is utterly delicious and sexy as sin. But it’s his troubled side and big heart that really drew me in. He was desperate to be a good father without really knowing how to be one. He was this confident, headstrong man who was so vulnerable when it came to his daughter and it made him real and relatable. The way he looked at his daughter, wanting nothing more than to figure her out, absolutely warmed my heart. I could feel his love and how lost he felt at times.
Trent is also an unapologetic jerk a lot of the time, and usually actions such as his would irk me to no end but for some reason it worked for him as it did with all of the HotHoles in the series. They love hard and unconditionally, and when a woman gets under their skin there is no turning back.
Edie Van Der Zee was starting to look a lot like the death of me, and yet here I was, coming back for more and more of her poison. Addicted like a crackhead.
I adored Edie. She was strong, brave, and determined. She was trying so hard to stand on her own two feet and made decisions with her heart. She was realistically written, acting her true age at times, yet she carried so much on her shoulders that she had to handle things in a more mature way than a typical eighteen year old would have. She wasn’t perfect and she knew what she was doing even when she put herself in the crossfire at the office. She owned her actions and did what she needed to do and adding to the shit storm brewing. It all made for a thrilling plot.
There are a lot of things fighting against Trent and Edie and they have a lot to overcome if they want to be together. They start out hating each other but slowly as they spend time together and get to know each other, things change between them. I thought the forbidden aspect was so well done and the anticipation that built every time Trent and Edie were in the same room was exciting. Their overwhelming attraction coupled with the fact that nothing can happen between them made everything more exciting.
You say you can’t touch me, but you almost do. All the time. Last night, you lost control. Tomorrow, you will do it again, because we can’t stop this. Whatever it is, it is happening.
Epic banter, scorching chemistry, and off the charts sexual tension lead to an emotionally intense connection and soon they are consumed with each other in the best possible way. It’s passionate and frenzied and could end up being more damaging than they could have imagined.
“You want to ruin me, destroy me, strip me of my power, and betray me. I should stay away from you, but I want you too fucking much. And when it’s all over, when all that’s left of us is sweaty flesh and shattered minds and torn hearts, you will remember me as the man who made you cry, and I’ll remember you as the girl I had to break to stay afloat.”
But that wasn’t the only thing that was intense. The twist and turns were jaw dropping and the way things began to unfold had me on pins and needles, desperate to know how it would all turn out. The mysteries in the story kept me enthralled and when everything was revealed it led to an unpredictable, powerful, and emotional confrontation.
I loved seeing the HotHoles together again. They are such great friends, unconditionally supporting and understanding each other. They ban together when they are needed most and are a strong family even if they don’t share the same blood. Overall, Scandalous was an addictive story and a wonderful conclusion to a fantastic series featuring the HotHoles who I couldn’t help but love.
