4 “Once in a Lifetime” stars!
This is such a gorgeous love story – a true fairytale romance between a woman and her teenage celebrity crush. It is funny, sweet, sexy and beautifully romantic with a hero that you can’t help but fall for, and a surprisingly emotional story that really pulls at the heartstrings. I couldn’t put it down, and I loved this one!
Heather is 38 years old and is heading out with her best friends to see Four Doors Down in concert. The boy band was her favorite when she was younger and she spent most of her teen years fantasizing about Eli Walsh, and now he’s dancing and singing right in front of her, and not only that, he’s looking at her… and drags her up on stage where he serenades her… and invites her backstage after the show.
“What do you want to happen, Heather?”
Eli’s eyes smolder as he tugs me close.
Oh. Fuck. Me
After their epic encounter, Heather freaks out and runs. Eli isn’t used to women running from him. So apart from being genuinely attracted to her, the fact that she doesn’t appear to want him, or anything from him, is intriguing and he persistently tracks her down.
Heather can’t believe that her celebrity crush so clearly wants to spend time with her, but her life is difficult and she has responsibilities, challenges and significant stressors in her life and understandably doesn’t have time to concentrate on anything else. And besides that – he’s Eli freaking Walsh! Their lives are poles apart. But their connection is undeniable, Eli is one determined dude, and he’s impossible to resist.
“I’m not pushing you away I’m just living in reality.”
“The only reality is the one we make.”
I loved this story. I fell totally and completely from Eli as he worked to win Heather over. It’s the first time in his life he’s ever had to do so, but he throws himself in willingly, and he whole-heartedly embraces Heather, her life, and the relationship that he so desperately wants with her. It’s fun, sweet and heartfelt with great banter, beautifully romantic moments and seriously hot sexy time.
“And what if you realize I’m not worth more?”
He shakes his head.
“What if you’re worth it all?”
And in the middle of this easy, natural and functional romance, there is a beautifully written dramatic element that brings the feels, and oh my Lord, it’s gorgeous! I defy anybody to read this book without at least getting a little bit teary. And it only further proves just how amazing Eli is, and their strength as a couple.
“Why do you have to be so perfect?” I ask. His fingers slide against my neck and his lips brush against mine.
“It’s only because you’re meant for me. I’m not perfect, baby. We’re just perfect together.”
There are challenges that need to be faced and there are surprises along the way, but this is a couple who are wholly and soully devoted to each other despite the obstacles standing in their way, and I loved watching it all play out.
I really enjoyed this book. It wasn’t that long ago that I went to a Backstreet Boys concert and relived all of my own teen fantasies, so I was right there with Heather as she fangirled like an idiot. And then to watch this beautiful, sweet, funny big-hearted man fall madly in love and with a strong, ‘normal’ girl, was absolutely gorgeous. I love that they are older (she is 38, he is 42), I love that there is no game playing, and I love how functional it all is. And SO freaking swoony and romantic, while still with an edge of fun. My favorite kind of romance to read.
“I told you, we’re heading to the bus!” he yells as he spins around to face the party. “We’ll be done in a few hours. I’m going to make my girlfriend scream for a bit.”
Loved this one – 4 stars.
