Alex Winslow is a train wreck. He’s a famous musician who has gone off the rails and has been arrested one too many times. Checking into a rehab center seems like the best place to start to fight his demons. It’s not enough, though, and his agent seeks an assistant to help with his recovery.
Indie needs a job and she needs it now. When a PA position becomes available she jumps at the opportunity. Turns out it’s not exactly what she was expecting. Babysitting a rockstar and keeping him sober is the last thing she wants to do but she is determined to make it work. She needs to money to help out her family and she won’t stop until she gets it.
When Indie goes on tour with Alex and his band she is in for a crazy experience. At the end of the three-month contract, will Indie leave with her life intact, or will she be left broken hearted by the very man everyone warned her about?
Wow, what a book! It’s an all-consuming, emotional, angst-filled rockstar romance that will take you on a wild ride. Real, raw and devastating, it will rip your heart out and crush your soul. But in the end it will piece you back together in a better, more complete way that will send your heart soaring, and I loved it!
L.J. Shen has a knack for writing heroes who you think will be too much to handle yet we can’t help but love. Alex is a perfect example. He is hard, wild, out-of-control, and an unapologetic asshole. And I. LOVED. HIM!
Alex is a complicated character. There is much more to him than what is on the surface. He wasn’t always hard. He had to adapt to the demands of the stardom and after his heart is crushed he went off the rails. I felt his pain and regret but sometimes when you are in too deep it feels impossible to escape the situation you’re in and I felt that with Alex.
I was a semi-automatic weapon, fully loaded and ready to fire. I was my own downfall, and deep down, I knew it.
He is troubled, pained, and has a lot to overcome before he can be the man he wants to be. The journey to healing is a dark and desperate one but well worth it if he can get the girl in the end.
Indie is a strong, confident heroine who stands her ground. She has a reason to take the job and she isn’t backing down. I was so sad reading about Indie’s family situation and I loved her more for everything she was doing to help the situation. She’s fun, innocent in ways, and even awkward at times, making me like her even more. She’s introverted and the job challenges her. I enjoyed watching her step out of her comfort zone while on tour. She doesn’t expect to fall for Alex but she does and she falls hard, and as the end of the tour approaches, you see the heartache coming.
He was there, in front of me, his face so naked and raw, and at that moment, I didn’t care that he’d break me… We needed each other. Now. On this tour. Like air, and oxygen, and the pulse beneath our flesh.
I liked the banter between Indie and Alex and the push and pull was entertaining. The sexual tension surrounding Indie and Alex was so well written. I felt the air sizzle whenever they were together.
”You look at me with dynamite in your eyes, waiting for me to light up the match and finally set you on fire.”
The slow progression of their relationship was real and I loved watching them open up to each other. They offer a reprieve from their troubles and they are able to be their true selves without judgement.
Every time Alex and Indie hinted at something happening in the future, the anticipation of what was to come grew exponentially. The nerve wracking, nail biting, and heart pounding moments kept me on edge. And then there was the twist! OMG I can’t take it. I had no idea it was coming. I was so invested in these characters that when the bombshell was dropped, I broke. It destroyed me.
In the end, the heartache was worth the pain because I loved the way Alex and Indie’s story plays out. There are so many roadblocks in their way that when they are finally able to grasp their HEA, I had happy tears in my eyes. Overall, Midnight Blue is an intense, emotional rockstar romance that I could not put down! It consumed me and I loved it!
