A beautiful finish for this amazing couple!
I was breathlessly anticipating the release Fifty Shades Freed, and was so excited when I finally got it that I wiped my entire night free to sit and devour it in one sitting. I loved it, but perhaps I built it up too much because I didn’t get the same overwhelming ‘OMG’ feeling that I got with the first two.
I thought Fifty Shades Darker finished beautifully and wondered where James was going to take the story from there. Of course I loved any opportunity to read more Christian and Ana, but I thought it seemed a re-hash of the problems they experienced in book 2. But instead of being a controlling, megalomaniac boyfriend, Christian is now a controlling, megalomaniac husband.
“I want your world to begin and end with me.”
Ana pushes his buttons of course, and they both fly off the handle with each other at regular intervals, but I loved that in between these moments they were more settled with each other. There were some very tender (and some very hot) moments, and more of Christian in relaxed, playful mode, which I love.
“I hate fighting with you,” he whispers.
“Well, stop being such an arse.”
He chuckles and the captivating sound reverberates through his chest. He tightens his hold on me. “Arse?”
“Ass.”
“I prefer arse.”
“You should. It suits you.”
I was not at all surprised about the way the story progressed, and thought it was handled really well. The reactions were true to what I would have expected, and again it provided an opportunity for Christian to resolve more of his past (including the evil Mrs Robinson) and to change.
While I didn’t think this book packed the same punch as the first two, the elements that I loved in the first two books were still there. It was still a very satisfying read, with the HEA ending and everything in the series wrapped up in a neat little bow.
I love, love, love this series. Definitely one of my top 5.
