3.5 happy ending stars

The final book of the Return To Me series, this novella crosses over with Lexi Blake’s Masters & Mercenaries series to bring us a gorgeously romantic and suspenseful story, and a long-awaited happy ending for much-deserving Cooper Townsend.

Cooper is the brother of Presley (heroine from Say You’ll Stay), and a cattle rancher from the small town of Bell Buckle. He has featured heavily in the series up to now, especially in the last book where he finally gave it a shot with Grace and got shot down.

Emily also grew up in Bell Buckle and is Grace’s best friend. But unlike her friends who have all stayed in their home town, Emily couldn’t wait to leave and is now pursuing her dreams of becoming a country singer.

Cooper and Emily have been attracted to each other for a while now, but neither of them have acted on it. Now, with their paths crossing while Emily is on tour, that attraction sparks to life and neither of them are unable to deny everything that has been building between them.

“What pretty girl do you have your eyes set on now?”
Cooper’s deep green eyes meet mine and they burn. Intensely. I see the heat pooling as his jaw tics just a little before he clears his throat. “The one that I’ve never quite been able to find.”

Ho-ly Lord, the chemistry between Cooper and Emily is absolutely sizzling! They want each other, they don’t hide it, and even though their lives are different, neither of them are prepared to give up their chance to finally have something together.

And the truth is that I’m falling in love with him.
If I’m honest with myself, I have been for a long time.

But Emily’s fame is bringing about the wrong kind of attention, putting her in danger as she becomes the target of an obsessed stalker. Cooper is determined to protect his girl and brings in badass Wade Rycroft from McKay-Taggart security.

With the threat looming closer, Cooper and Emily trying to figure out how to have a life together, and a broody, badass bodyguard along for the ride, it’s all happening. It’s an exciting, dramatic and passionately romantic journey with just the right amount of angst, and though it moves quickly and I would have loved seeing more of Cooper and Emily’s build up, it’s a novella so there wasn’t really time. But Corinne Michaels does a great job giving Cooper and Emily the happy ending they so beautifully deserve.

All I want is for you to be happy, Em. I’ve waited a long time for this. I’m not goin’ to let it go.”

This is a great read, and a wonderful finish to the Return to Me series, with a sweet epilogue and a beautiful glimpse into the future for these much-loved characters.

“Good morning,” Cooper’s deep voice grumbles against my neck.

“Hi there, cowboy,” I reply, nestling into his body a little deeper. “Sleep good?”

I did. We passed out at some point during the night—fully dressed. I’ve never had so much fun doing nothing before. All we did was talk about everything and anything, and of course, I kissed him—a lot. How could I not? Kissing Cooper feels like coming home. It was full of anticipation, joy, and a feeling of safety that I could just fall if I had to. Cooper was there to catch me all night.

His nose rubs up and down the back of my neck. “I did,” he replies.

His arm snakes around me, tightening and holding me secure. I try to remember that I need to keep myself in check. Yes, this is Cooper Townsend, but at the same time, we live worlds apart. It isn’t smart to get caught up in something that won’t ever be anything more than just this.

Feelings lead to heartbreak. Heartbreak isn’t something I can afford right now.

“What time does the bus leave?”

I flip over to my other side so I can look at him. “Not until tonight. Luke likes to travel at night and see the city we’re in during the day. So, I have all day. Why?”

He smiles while resting his hand on my hip. “Spend the day with me.”

“Coop.” I sigh. We had talked about this last night. That we’d say goodbye in the morning and keep things light. No complications. No promises. Not until the tour was over and I was back in Tennessee. Then, who knows, but I’m all too aware of how easy it would be for me.

“It’s breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Just a day of us hanging out,” he presses.

My eyes narrow slightly, and I pull my lips to the side. “I don’t know. We agreed…”

“Emmy, we have a very looming expiration date. I’m just askin’ my friend to hang out. Besides, what other options do you have?”
