5 stars and ALL the feels!

I loved this book! It’s an absolutely beautiful love story that made me laugh, cry and swoon. Aly Martinez is already an auto-buy author for me – I love her writing and her ability to take you right into the heart of her story and feel every moment of it, and days after finishing this book, I’m still thinking about it (and that cover – wow!). I fell in instant love with Sam, Levee and their story and I devoured this book from start to finish.

Sam and Levee meet in unusual circumstances on the top of a bridge overlooking a deadly drop. Sam is there to think about his life and reflect – his life is not awful, he’s got good friends and his own successful business, but he’s been through some hard times and he longs for more than just ‘fine’, he wants ‘great’. Levee is on the bridge to escape her life. As a highly successful pop singer she feels like she’s lost herself and she struggles with the pressure on her life, and with the demons of her past. She’s not exactly sure why she’s on the bridge but Sam sees her, and even though he has no clue who she is, he’s terrified that she is there to end her life so, desperate to help her, he reaches out to her. Night after night they meet on that bridge, with Sam getting Levee to open up a little more each time, and a connection between them is formed.

I slid a hand down the rail to cover hers.
It was a simple gesture, but it was easily the greatest decision I’d ever made.
That one touched destroyed a wall.
I wasn’t even sure whose wall it had been to begin with— hers or mine. But I would have spent my entire life tearing it down if I could have only predicted what was on the other side.

And here begins a beautiful relationship. Despite all of the deep and heavy, Sam and Levee have a wonderful sense of lightness together, and their flirty banter is fantastic.

“What’s your last name”…
“Rivers.”
“Shut up. I’m serious.”
“So am I … Just think how fun your name would be if we got married.” I winked.
She glared.
“What? Too soon?”

I LOVE these two together! Fun, teasing, honest and incredibly passionate, you can feel the chemistry between them, and every little moment is shiver-inducing.

“I need–”
I cut her off … “Me. You need me.”
I only knew because I needed her.
And, as her face softened, the truth tumbled from her mouth. “I really do.”
“Then take it.”

Their relationship develops naturally, they laugh a lot, but they also open up to each other about their demons and their feelings for each other, and their deep, emotional bond is beautifully explored.

My body ached to hold her.
To feel her.
To help her.
To allow her to heal…me.

They both have demons from the past that plague them, and as those are fully explored, the story takes on a direction that I wasn’t expecting. I love that I didn’t know what was going to come next, and I loved the dual POV that allowed us to see exactly what was going on for both Sam and Levee while it all unfolded. And I LOVE that they were so determined to be together despite it all.

“You need someone you didn’t meet on the top of a bridge.”
But I didn’t give a single fuck what Levee thought I needed.
I’d made my decision.
…
“You’re right … The only problem, Levee, is I just want you.”

Oh Sam, how I love you! He’s got his own issues he’s trying to deal with, but he has the biggest heart, and the way he is with Levee is absolutely beautiful! Honest, sweet, and a little bit dirty, he’s incredibly supportive and infinitely swoony (I pretty much highlighted all of his dialogue). He doesn’t care about her celebrity, he just accepts it, and her, exactly as she is. The man is absolutely perfect!

“There isn’t a woman in the world who doesn’t have demons of some sort. No matter who I end up with, it’s always going to be a struggle.” I kissed her hair again, letting it linger as if my lips were able to transfer the truth of my words. “Levee, I’d like to struggle with you.”

SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

The other highlight of this book is Levee’s best friend, Henry. Their careers blossomed side by side, so he shares her celebrity lifestyle and he loves and supports her whole-heartedly. Even with the intensity and awesomeness of Sam and Levee together, he is a total scene stealer and his absolutely outrageous flirty behaviour with Sam (Henry is openly gay) is hilarious!

Henry stilled and peeled his shirt over his head, announcing, “Threesome.”
“Excuse me?” Sam questioned as Henry advanced.
“Fine, twosome, but Levee gets to watch. She is my best friend, after all.”

I literally loved every moment of this book. It’s deep and emotional, but also so incredibly funny, and the romance is absolutely beautiful! I’m beyond excited that Aly is going to continue on with these characters, with Henry’s book coming soon.

I absolutely loved it – 5 stars.
