Synopsis
I should’ve never agreed to this arrangement…
Thirty days ago, my boss—Mr. Wolf of Wall Street, came to me with an offer I couldn’t refuse: Sign my name on the dotted line and pretend to be his fiancée for one month. If I agreed, he would let me out of my employment contract with a “very generous” severance package.
The rules were pretty simple: No intimate kissing, no actual sex. Just pretend to love each other for the press, even though I’ve secretly wanted to knock that sexy smirk off his face since the first day we met.
I definitely didn’t need to think twice about this. I signed my name and started counting down the seconds to when I would never have to deal with his special brand of ass-holery again.
I only made it to one minute…
We argued the entire four-hour flight to his hometown, failed to make a convincing impression with the welcoming press, and right when I was about to knock that arrogant look off his face in real life? He purposely dropped his bath towel in front of me, distracting me with his nine-inch cock to “show me who the bigger person was” in our relationship. Then he gave me his trademark smirk once again and asked if I wanted to consummate our marriage.
Tragically, this is only day one.
We still have 29 more days to go…
Review
5 fantastically fun stars!
It’s not often that I 5-star a novella, but this little book completely swept me up and I absolutely loved it! A smart, sexy, fun story combining some of my favourite tropes – boss/employee, fake romance and enemies-to-lovers – this book is full of snark and banter with a sassy heroine and an assholish hero, and their combustible chemistry creates a fantastically entertaining read that I could not get enough of.
Nicholas Wolfe is a billionaire tycoon known as the ‘Wolf of Wall Street’. The most eligible bachelor in NYC, he is a target of the paparazzi and he is feared and revered by those he does business with. He has built his empire from the ground up, and he is a man who lets nothing stand in his way. Ruthless and demanding, his employees mostly hate him, which doesn’t concern him in the least, but there is one employee who riles him up like no other – in all kinds of inappropriate ways.
Emily Johnson is Nicholas’ highly competent, overqualified, smart and sassy Executive Assistant. She is the highest paid EA in the city, with a myriad of perks, but she has had enough of Nicholas, his demanding ways, and his effortless sexiness that tests her daily. She is desperate to escape him – but Nicholas has no intention of letting her go, swinging his considerable clout around and making it impossible for her to leave.
Nicholas and Emily have a deliciously argumentative dynamic, bantering and bickering constantly. Emily is one of the only people who stands up to her tyrannical boss, and secretly Nicholas loves it. They have a highly successful working relationship, but Emily hates him and makes no secret of the fact, and the snark, sarcasm and conflict is highly entertaining. I laughed out loud at their bantering, and the frank and honest way they relate to each other, and their simmering sexual tension that influences each and every encounter.
“Should I assume that you didn’t steal any sips of this today like usual?”
“I’ve told you countless times before that I don’t drink your coffee. I don’t like the extra vanilla you always request.”
He spun the nearly empty cup around in his hands, tapping the part where remnants of my red lipstick stained the lid.
When Nicholas’ latest business deal requires him to play the part of the family man, he needs a ‘fiancee’ quickly, and who better to play the part than the woman who knows him best. So a deal is struck that for a month, Emily and Nicholas will play infatuated lovers which Nicholas closes out his deal. In return, Emily will be richly compensated, and she will be allowed to leave his employ. It’s only thirty days… how can she possibly refuse?
“I think it would be in your best interest to accept my offer. I highly doubt the man you eventually marry will be as endowed as me…”
OMG, I love a fake romance set-up, and this one is sensational! The dynamic between Nicholas and Emily is so much fun as they continue to argue and bicker, and their sizzling UST creates a fantastic edge as those long-held boundaries are finally pushed. The chemistry is electric, emotions are running high and the passion is explosive as two years of pent-up lust is finally unleashed, and oh holy damn it’s so freaking hot!
But there is something so much more beneath it all. Will they be able to walk away from each other when those thirty days are up?
I loved this book. It’s the perfect blend of funny, smart, sexy and emotional, and I loved the way the romance unfolded. It was a quick read, but the characters and their story were well developed, and I was completely captivated. Of course I would have loved for it to be longer, but it works as a short story, and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it.
The audiobook is narrated by Erin Mallon and Zachary Webber who do a fantastic job bringing the story to life, and at only 2hrs and 40mins, it’s the perfect short read. I listened to this one in a morning, and finished it with a huge smile on my face.
