4 “I hear you” stars!

I love the Trails of Sin series, and though Booted is about a separate couple, you should read Knotted and Buckled first because Booted is full of spoilers. The previous books are definitely worth experiencing before you get to Lorne’s story, so stop now and go grab them if you haven’t read them yet. You won’t be disappointed!

Lorne Cassidy was sent to jail at eighteen after the horrific events that went down in Knotted, and eight years later, he is finally home. He is welcomed back to ranch by his sister, Conor Cassidy, his best friends, Jake and Jarret Holsten, and Jarret’s girl, Maybe Quinn.

Raina was a prisoner in John Holsten’s house when Maybe rescued her and brought her to Julep Ranch. She is staying in Lorne’s room healing from the wounds John inflicted on her, physically, emotionally, and mentally, but as soon as she is able she’s leaving with one thing on her mind – to kill John.

Booted is full of the emotion, intensity, steam, suspense, and gritty darkness that the other books have, and I was addicted from the start. It has an intriguing plot that will keep your interest and broken characters you can’t help but love.

Raina refuses to be a victim. Strong and brave, she has a past she’s not proud of but she does what she needs to do to survive. She has been through hell and is fighting back the only way she can. I loved her determination to finally set herself free by any means necessary even if it means using force.

Lorne is hardened. Watching his sister violated and then going to prison for killing a man broke him, and prison changed him further. Despite his strength and abilities, he is vulnerable. Adjusting to life back home is harder than he thought and my heart hurt for him.

Lorne and Raina are broken in different ways and they prove to be just what the other needs. Raina calms Lorne and gives him peace from the nightmares that plague him while Lorne sees Raina for who she is inside and not just how she lived her life. It takes a little while before they can trust each other but when they do, they go all in.

The pushing and pulling is entertaining and I loved that Lorne and Raina give as good as they get. Raina didn’t back down and could put Lorne in his place while still understanding what he is going through.

“Living in that head of yours must be lonely.” She nudges up my hat. “I’m right here, Lorne, seeing you, wanting to hear you.”

The sexual tension is tangible and the sexy times are hot but it is so much more than a physical relationship for Lorne and Raina. Lorne is ruthless and won’t stand by and do nothing while Raina’s threatened. He loves fiercely and risks everything to protect her.

The emotion runs deep and I felt it all. Lorne and Raina were a perfect mix of hard and soft, and I fell a little more as they opened themselves to each other.

He smashed my heart against my ribs to make room for his. Now we beat side by side, stretching and growing together in the shared space.

On top of the intense love story, there are turns that will keep you on your toes and suspense that will make you sweat. It’s not all pretty but in the end, it’s the love that prevails and the loyalty between the people who mean everything to you that shine. Overall, Booted was a wonderful conclusion to the Trails of Sin series and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a dark and gritty love story.
