Blurb

The first time I met Ian Kemp in the sparkling blue waters of St. Thomas, I was six years old and we shared a summer beneath the stars.

The second time I met Ian Kemp, he was a shell of the boy I once knew.  Turbulent and infuriating, he refused my friendship at every turn. Like me, he was a casualty of life’s cruelty, but we were planets apart.

We’d both sought refuge on the island, hoping to find our anchor. Instead, we found each other and managed to reclaim our stars…until we both got swept away.

Review

“Sometimes what’s meant to be isn’t written in the stars, instead it’s a journey on the path less travelled without a map of guidance, without certainty.”

5 soul-searching stars

This is a beautiful story of love and healing, of soulmates reconnected, and of finding what makes you happy and finding the strength to hold on to it. It is beautifully written, deeply profound, deliciously angsty and heartachingly romantic. Koti and Ian’s story touched my heart and made me feel everything and it’s a story I won’t soon be forgetting.

Koti and Ian met as children when she was 6 and he was 14. Their parents were friends and owned holiday homes next to each other on the island of St. Thomas, and for one summer they became close despite their age difference, sharing a friendship that neither of them forgot. They caught glimpses of each other over the years, but it’s not until nearly 20 years later that they come into each other’s lives once again.

Koti now lives in St. Thomas in her parent’s house. Her high-flying life in New York imploded, and she escaped to St. Thomas to get away from it all and figure herself out, and she never left. She found her peace and now lives a slower-paced life, working with her best friend and enjoying the bubble that she has created for herself.

I know this island and its magical healing powers … I don’t have the answers to anything. But here, this place is where everything wrong can be made right.

Ian’s personal life has just fallen apart, with the reveal of a devastating betrayal shattering everything he thought he knew. Completely destroyed, he runs to St. Thomas as it’s the last place he remembers being happy, and he needs somewhere to pull himself back together.

Koti and Ian remember each other, of course, but while Koti is all sunshine and smiles, Ian is broody and completely closed off. He wants to wallow, but Koti is desperate to pull him out of the pain he is so clearly experiencing and let her island work its magic on him. And as she pushes and he reluctantly begins to let her in, it soon becomes clear that the connection that they shared as children is still very much there, only now it’s tinged with a strong attraction.

He watched my reaction to his every touch. My chest rose and fell with heavy breaths. Everything felt heavy and I succumbed under his potent gaze. What lay beneath was hellfire and I couldn’t wait to tango with his demons.

The chemistry between these two is absolutely sizzling! You can feel how much they want each other, and every moment between them is simmering with sexual tension and a deeply emotional need for each other. Ian knows he’s in no shape to be starting anything, and Koti has issues of her own that she’s dealing with, but slowly, naturally and completely unexpectedly, they both begin to fall into something that neither of them saw coming.

“Dammit, Ian, this wasn’t supposed to happen.”
He nodded. “I know.”
“This isn’t good is it?”
“No, but you aren’t alone.”

I don’t believe in miracles, but I’m falling for mine.

Oh. My. God, I love this love story! It’s not easy, and there is a lot of back and forth as they deal with their personal issues and figure out how to deal with what they are feeling, but every single moment of it is dripping with an emotional intensity that had me absolutely captivated. There is an ease to their friendship which is beautifully explored, there is laughter and fun, and so much more as Koti begins to bring Ian back to life, and I loved watching the shifts in their relationship. The growing chemistry is there through it all, and the passion and intensity between these two is all-consuming and absolutely explosive!

“Kissing you feels like a free fall, touching you makes me ache, and being inside you is so damn addicting.”

I won’t go into details about the journey that Ian and Koti go on as they figure it all out, because you need to just get sucked into the story and watch (and feel) it all unfold. But I felt every spine-tingling moment of it. There is angst, but it makes sense to their situation and it works to enhance the story and bring the feels, and I read with tears streaming down my face and a pounding heart through most of the end of the book, but OMG it was worth it!

And it’s not only Ian and Koti’s love story. The relationship and love between Ian and his daughter is an important part of the story and is written just beautifully, showing us how big Ian’s heart is and creating another very special part of this book that ties in perfectly to the overall story.

I loved this book. It made me feel, it made me fall in love, and it has a sense of magic about it as these two soul mates fight for their something extraordinary.

“I see it all because I know you that well. I watched you and worshipped you for the best months of my life. I know what you need because I loved giving it to you.”

I’m so looking forward to Koti’s best friend Jasmine’s story – Falling Over Forty. She’s so freaking funny with her own unique story already taking shape, and I can’t wait to see how it all works out for her.

This is such a great read and highly, highly recommended – 5 stars.
