“You made it so damn easy for me to love you”

4.5 stars

OMG, I loved this book! A funny, sexy, intelligent romance with absolutely EPIC banter! I love the characters, I love their story, and the romance is beautiful! It’s such a fun read and I highlighted like a lunatic while reading (which explains my gleefully quote-whorey review).

Kate gave up a career in law to open up a food pantry. She has a strong desire to make a difference in her community, and she works incredibly hard to help those that need her so badly. Coming into the winter months she is running short on supplies so she records a small segment on TV calling out for help. Then along comes an anonymous donor who starts making regular, large donations. Intrigued, she makes plans to catch her mysterious benefactor in the act, and that’s how she meets Ian.

Ian is a hacker – one of the best in the business. He is hugely successful, running his own internet security business and as a hobby, he’s also a modern day Robin Hood – taking from the bad guys to help those that need it.

“What are you saying? That you’re a thief who steals from other thieves?”
He wrinkled his nose, and it was adorable… “It sounds so distasteful when you say it like that. I prefer master appropriator of ill-gotten funds. You can call me master for short.”

I love Ian! Absolutely love him! He is confident, highly intelligent, and has a great wit. He is such a light and happy guy. He doesn’t brood or get pissed off, he takes things as they come, and goes after what he wants – “An air of amusement surrounded him at all times, as if the world he lived in was just so infinitely entertaining and— in his case— there for the taking.” And he’s freaking hilarious!

“So you want a nice guy, but you don’t want him to be boring.”
“Yes. Nice and not boring and not into threesomes and no cocaine. I mean, is that too much to ask?”
“No, although I feel compelled to point out that the threesome thing is pretty universal.”
“Oh for God’s sake,” she muttered.
“That doesn’t mean we’re all going to try to convince you to participate in one. It’s just that very few guys would be like, ‘Go away, extra girl,’ should one happen to climb into our bed when you’re already in it. That’s all I’m saying.”

The man has no shame, absolutely no boundaries, and he has set his sights on Kate. He stalks her online and pops up whenever she least expects it, and he declares his intentions early on.

“I’ll win you over eventually. I’m very charming that way.”

And he’s right! Kate and Ian are clearly attracted to each other, but she is wary of his perceived thievery and lack of boundaries, but his persistence pays off and she soon stars to fall for him. Their relationship progresses organically, they spend time together, which quickly progresses to actual dates, they flirt and they banter, and it is SENSATIONAL!

“You’ve obviously hacked into my computer. How did you do it?”
“I came in your backdoor.”
“I’m certain you did not.”
“I assure you that I did.”
“Without even discussing it with me first? No preparation? No warning? Don’t you think that’s incredibly bad form?”
Ian grinned. “Are we still talking about your computer? Because I find you utterly delightful right now.”

“Get out of my computer immediately. I’m willing to move past the fact that you hacked me, but it ends now.”
“No more backdoor?”
“No more backdoor.”
He appeared crestfallen. “Ever?”
“Never,” Kate said firmly.
“Not even on my birthday or like a special occasion?”
“Are we still talking about my computer?” she asked.
“You probably are.”

I loved everything about this love story! It’s easy and natural, funny, romantic, passionate and swoony. Kate and Ian have so much fun together, and with no game playing, angst or stupid behaviour, this relationship is all win and it builds into something incredibly special. I read with a huge smile on my face, and was easily swept up in the swoony romance.

“You made it so damn easy for me to love you”

That’s not to say that this is a purely blissful little read, because it’s not. There is some drama and heavy emotion thrown in there, and even though while it’s happening you know what the outcome will be, watching it all unfold is very emotional. But it creates a nice amount of depth and works to build the intensity of the story and I was madly flipping pages, desperate for it all to be worked out.

This book is the first of what may be a series… or maybe a duet? But it certainly doesn’t read like one. It’s a complete story, with a beautifully happy ending and all loose ends tied up. I am more than satisfied with this book as a standalone but I have so much love for these characters, I’m excited to see what comes next for them and I’ll definitely be reading the next book when it comes out.

I loved this book! So much fun, I adored every moment of Kate and Ian’s story. I did find the writing a little disjointed at the beginning, but once things started happening, the flow was there, and I got lost in this book, finishing it in one sitting.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a funny, sexy, smart romance.

4.5 stars.
