“Why do I get the feeling you’re trouble?”
I smiled and winked. Because I fucking was.
4 stars!
This novella is a part of the Hades Hangmen series, and though it doesn’t form an essential part of the ongoing storyline of the series, it is a fantastic addition, giving us more insight into much-loved characters Tank and Beauty, as we go back in time to see how they met and how they became a part of the Hangmen family.
Make sure you read this book after book #6, Crux Untamed, as it will contain spoilers for that book.
Shane had a really rough family life, and while living on the streets as a teenager he was taken in by the Klan. Not knowing any better and craving the support, friendship and brotherhood that the group provided, he was rechristened as ‘Tank’ and threw himself into the life, until a stint in prison opened his eyes. Upon his release he took off on his bike, leaving it all behind.
Susan-Lee’s life isn’t much better. On the outside she’s a beauty queen living the pageant life, but secretly she is abused regularly and forced into a lifestyle that she hates. When she finally breaks and runs away, she literally runs right into a gorgeous biker and climbs on the back of this life, desperate for freedom.
“You getting on or what, beauty queen? Looked like you were trying to hitch a ride.”
Not expecting anything from each other than steaming hot sex and companionship for the road, Tank and his beauty queen embark on an adventure of discovery, eventually running into Reaper, a violent psycho and President of the Hades Hangmen MC, an encounter that will change both of their lives forever.
I really enjoyed this read. Tank and Beauty are a fixture of the Hades Hangmen, a strong, committed couple who are devoted to the MC life, and I loved seeing how they met and fell in love, how they fell into the MC lifestyle, and their love for the family that they found there.
This book is equal parts romance and MC drama as their story unfolds, and as much as I enjoyed seeing how they ended up with the club, of course it was the love story that completely stole my heart. Tank is all sexy badass, but he has a soft spot for Beauty which is beautifully shown. And she is a wonderful match for him – a badass all on her own, she loves Tank unreservedly and stands strong by her man through it all.
“You know it all. Now you gotta decide if you’re in.” I held her tighter, just in case it was the last time. “You’re good, Beauty. You can go somewhere. Get a better man. You need to decide–”.
“You,” she said before I’d even finished. “I choose you. You’re not the man you used to be.” She straightened her back. “I get you ain’t ever gonna walk the straight and narrow. May do bad shit again. But I’m not a pussy, Tank. I got this. Got you. I can live this life.”
I loved it. I love their relationship, I love the dark and dirty exploration of club life, and I love the glimpse we get of younger versions of the characters that have featured in the series. A must-read for Hangmen fan, this is a great read.
