All the stars!

Wow, wow, wow. What a read! Sarah J. Maas has taken this series and tipped it on its head, taking us on a thrilling tourney that twists and turns, shifting the story in unexpected directions and delivering an epic book that I could not put down.

This is the second book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, and directly continues on from the first book, so don’t think about reading this one as a standalone.

Feyre has been left irrevocably changed by her time under the mountain. Mentally, physically and emotionally she isn’t the same person, and though she is praised as a hero, she’s struggling to cope with all that she went through and adjust to the life that has been laid out before her.

Following on from her life-saving deal with Rhysand, she is now also bound to the Night Court, which brings a fantastic new aspect to the story as her time there introduces us to a whole new world, new politics, and a fantastic bunch of characters.

With time and support from her new friends, Feyre slowly begins to piece herself back together, forging new alliances, involving herself in political games and intrigue, learning her new powers and how to master them, and finding her place in her new world. And as she explores it all, she starts to figure out who she is and what she wants, and it’s such a thrilling ride!

I was not a pet, not a doll, not an animal.
I was a survivor, and I was strong.
I would not be weak, or helpless again
I would not, could not be broken. Tamed.

Filled with action, adventure, drama, intrigue and suspense, I struggled to put this book down. And despite all of that intensity, it’s also really funny and the dynamics between the characters bring a lot of teasing, laughs and lightness. And yes, it’s romantic… epically romantic! With everything else that is going on in the story, the love story still manages to stand strong, and I was reading with breathless, spine-tingling anticipation as that all played out.

I listened to this one as an audiobook and I legit sat in my car in my driveway after returning home from work, unable to move as I was completely sucked into the heartwrenching scenes… only to listen to them all over again just so that I could fully absorb it. Such is the emotion and intensity of it all. I freaking loved it!

“I am broken and healing, but every piece of my heart belong to you.”

“I look at you and feel like I’m dying. Like I can’t breathe. I’m thinking that I want you so badly I can’t concentrate half the time I’m around you.”

“There you are. I’ve been looking for you.

Aware of every breath, every movement, I sat in his lap. His hands gently braced my hips as I studied his face. “And now I want you to know, Rhysand, that I love you. I want you to know … ” His lips trembled, and I brushed away the tear that escaped down his cheek. “I want you to know,” I whispered, “that I am broken and healing, but every piece of my heart belongs to you. And I am honored—honored to be your mate.” His arms wrapped around me and he pressed his forehead to my shoulder, his body shaking. I stroked a hand through his silken hair. “I love you,” I said again. I hadn’t dared say the words in my head. “And I’d endure every second of it over again so I could find you. And if war comes, we’ll face it. Together. I won’t let them take me from you. And I won’t let them take you from me, either.” Rhys looked up, his face gleaming with tears. He went still as I leaned in, kissing away one tear. Then the other.  As he had once kissed away mine. When my lips were wet and salty with them, I pulled back far enough to see his eyes. “You’re mine,” I breathed.

OMGOMGOMG! Even now, that still gives me shivers!!!

The pace moves between slow and easy as Feyre discovers her new world, sweet, fun moments as we get to know the characters and enjoy their dynamics, and heartpounding action that is full of excitement, devastating violence and breathtaking surprises. But it’s all perfect! It matches the story perfectly, setting a wonderful tone, all of it dragging you further and further into the magical world as we feel and experience everything right alongside the characters.

And with more shocking twists thrown in at the end, I’m diving straight into the next book and can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.

“To the people who look at the stars and wish….”
Rhys clinked his glass against mine. “To the stars who listen— and the dreams that are answered.”

I freaking loved it – 5 stars!
