Griffin is an ex navy medic who finds himself in Quarry Hill, PA escaping his past and working as a paramedic. No one but his best friend knows his name or what went down a year earlier and he wants to keep it that way. One night on the way home from the store he comes across a woman covered in blood. Griffin tries to help her but she flees and ends up falling and hitting her head. When she wakes with amnesia, she doesn’t know who she is or who she is running from, only that she can’t go to the police.
I Dream of Spiders weaves suspense and romance into a web of mystery. First, we have Griffin and his past that isn’t revealed right away. When we find out what he experienced, it is shocking. I had no idea it was going to be that bad and I completely understand why refuses to let his guard down. Then, there is the mystery woman. Somehow she sneaks into Griffin’s heart and he feels things he hasn’t felt in so long. He wants to protect her from her past and won’t let anyone harm her even though he doesn’t know what they are dealing with.
The woman, who Griffin names Clare since she can’t remember her real name, is strong yet vulnerable. She knows nothing about her past but knows something bad happened. Her fear doesn’t overshadow her need for answers though and I loved her determination even if it leads her to make some questionable decisions.
We get bits and pieces of her past through flashbacks but only enough to wet our palette. I couldn’t wait to discover what she was running from and what she went through. Just when I think I have it figured out new twists are revealed. It’s darker than I expected and I was curious to see how everything would play out.
By the end, while the mystery was captivating, it wrapped up a little too easily and I would have liked to see more. Also, the romance could have been deeper. It felt rushed and I didn’t feel a strong connection between the characters. I wanted to see more feels to back up the love they felt instead of just words. The emotion just wasn’t there.
Overall, I Dream of Spiders was entertaining and enjoyable. I’ll admit that I am really curious about Trent and will definitely be checking out I Fade Away coming Fall 2019.
