Can these two opposites make romance in Metlin work?
Tayla McKinnon is not a small town girl. The fashion blogger moved to Metlin with two goals in mind: help her friend start a book store and have a little fun. A year later, Tayla has made new friends, successfully launched INK, and is ready for a new challenge. Too bad she can’t get a certain rock-climbing, comic book geek off her mind.
Jeremy Allen has been playing the long game with Tayla, even though the avid outdoorsman was certain she was the one from the minute he set eyes on her. They may have different tastes, but their chemistry is undeniable.
When a job opportunity from a new fashion start-up lands in her inbox, Tayla takes it as a sign. She’s not meant for a small town, even though her best friend and her inconvenient crush are trying to convince her otherwise.
Jeremy can’t believe Tayla would be willing to leave her new life behind, but maybe he’s been playing it too cool. Summer in Metlin can sizzle, which gives Jeremy an excuse to turn up the heat.
Hooked is a stand-alone, opposites-attract romance in the Love Stories on 7th and Main series by Elizabeth Hunter, USA Today Bestselling author of INK.
Review
“How did you make a choice between the life you always wanted and the life you never imagined you’d want?”
3.5 stars
This is the second book in Elizabeth Hunter’s 7th and Main series, taking us back to the town of Metlin, California, and its quirky, lovable inhabitants. This is the story of Tayla McKinnon, best friend of Emmie (heroine from book #1, Ink), but this book can easily be read as a standalone, and I really enjoyed this sweet and sexy opposites-attract story.
Tayla is a city girl who loves all things culture and fashion, and she runs her own successful fashion blog. She moved to Metlin temporarily to help Emmie get settled with her new business, and she’s been enjoying her experience of smaller-town living, but she’s just learned of a dream job opportunity back in San Francisco that is perfect for her. It’s clearly a sign that it’s time to get back to the real world and her life plan… if only it wasn’t for her inconvenient crush on local geek and hot rock climber, Jeremy.
Jeremy runs the comic book store in Metlin, and spends every spare moment he has in the great outdoors. From the moment Tayla came to town, he’s been interested. He knows they are incredibly different, and Tayla has made no secret of the fact that she’s a fan of hook-ups and not interested in a relationship, but he knows he’s slowly wearing her down, and the sexual tension between them builds with each and every encounter. But now Tayla is talking of returning to San Francisco, it’s time to step up his game. He knows he has a battle on his hands with Tayla, but her sass and confidence turn him on like no one ever has, and he goes all out to get his girl.
When she fell for him, he wanted her to fight it. Just a little. It would make the surrender all the more satisfying.
It doesn’t take a whole lot of convincing for Tayla to agree to go out with Jeremy, and what follows is a really fun romance. Tayla and Jeremy are both very mature and confident, and they know what they want; they tease and play with each other, but it’s not in an angsty push-pull kind of way, they know exactly what they’re doing, and they enjoy every moment of their fun, sexy, chemistry-filled flirtation.
She unbuckled her seatbelt and scooted closer to him, laying her head on his shoulder. “Don’t crash.”
“Don’t do anything crazy and I’ll do my best.”
“Was that a veiled reference to road head?”
He shook his head and tried unsuccessfully to smother a smile. “Woman, you have a dirty mind.”
“I read a lot of romance novels. They’re good for the imagination.”
“I’ll remember that.”
It was supposed to be a simple hook—up. Tayla never expected to develop feelings, but the more time she spends with sweet and charming Jeremy, she finds herself falling further and further under his spell, and who can blame her?
“I don’t want to think about tomorrow. Or next month. I want to be with you right here and now.” His mouth was so close she could feel his breath on her cheek. “You with me?”
But with the bright lights of San Francisco calling, and the job opportunity of a lifetime, it’s going to take a lot of soul-searching for Tayla to figure out what it is she truly wants from her life, and it’s a journey of self-discovery as she, along with the help of her friends and one very determined boyfriend, does exactly that.
“How did you make a choice between the life you always wanted and the life you never imagined you’d want?”
This was a really cute read. Tayla is a huge personality, and while I didn’t warm to her as much as I would have liked, she’s perfect for Jeremy, and he is so incredibly amazing that I did love them together. The love story is gorgeous, but I feel like it got short-changed a bit with all of the other stuff happening in the story. While I loved exploring the town of Metlin and its inhabitants, I wasn’t as interested in Tayla’s career opportunities or her fashion blog, I just wanted more of the romance, but I was happy with the way that the story played out, and I finished the book with a big grin on my face.
Ink rocked my world, and though I didn’t love this one as much, I’m super-excited for the next book in the series, Grit, and my fingers are crossed that the glimpses we got in this book are a hint of what is to come!
