4 stars!

The first book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series, this is a fun, sexy and heartfelt second-chance-sports romance, and a fantastic introduction to a new world and group of characters that I am really excited to explore and get to know.

Leo Trevi has just gotten his big break and has been signed as a rookie to the NHL’s newest team, the Brooklyn Bruisers. He’s keen to make his mark and prove himself, but things take a turn for the unexpected when he learns that the newly-appointed coach of the team is the father of his ex-girlfriend who has a nasty grudge against him. And the girl herself is working as the team’s publicist.

Georgia Worthington is working hard to prove herself as the Brooklyn Bruisers’ publicist. She’s holding the job temporarily but she’s aiming to make it permanent, so she’s hoping to keep things running smoothly. And then the team hires her ex-boyfriend as their new recruit, and things begin to go downhill from there.

Leo and Georgia were high school sweethearts, and were each other’s whole lives. They loved hard and completely, and they were it for each other, until it tragically ended. Now they’re back in each other’s lives for the first time in six years, and it’s bringing up all of those emotions that neither of them have ever really been able to move past, and when a microphone picks up Leo declaring that Georgia is the love of his life during a press conference, there’s no hiding anything anymore.

This is such a sweet romance! It’s clear that Leo and Georgia still have very strong feelings for each other, but with her job on the line, Georgia is determined to keep things professional between them. But with a meddling best friend and a very determined Leo working against her, she has no hope of resisting the pull of everything that is between them.

“I spent six years trying to get over you, and it didn’t take. Our time is now.”

OMG, I love Leo so much! He hides nothing. His heart is on his sleeve for his girl, and he holds nothing back, and I freaking love that! He’s sweet, sexy, funny and supportive and he’ll do whatever it takes to get her back.

Georgia was the one to end things between them, breaking both of their hearts. It was a heartbreaking situation and I could absolutely understand the situation from both of their perspectives. There’s a bit of drama to the story when it comes to the impact that the events from the past had on the relationships between Leo, Georgia, and even Georgia’s father. The way they address all of that in the present is really well done, and I love how they continue dealing with it and worked to overcome their issues in and honest and functional way.

Letting Georgia go was the hardest thing he’d ever had to do. And he’d only been able to manage it because he was sure it would help her be happy again.,/i>

We get to meet a core group of the Bruisers, and as always with sports romance, I loved the excitement of the sport, and the camaraderie and brotherhood between the boys. Between the team and the corporate staff, there are some great personalities there and I’m looking forward to reading more about them in future books.

I loved this book. It’s a beautiful love story and a great beginning to a series, and I’m excited for more.
