Review

This book picks up a couple of weeks after the end of Fallen Too Far. Blaire is back home in Alabama and trying to deal with the fall out of all that happened during her time in Florida. She is broken-hearted and missing Rush, but still feeling very betrayed. And she is absolutely lost, with no clue where to go or what to do, but knowing that she can’t stay in her home town any more.

Bonus for this book – it’s told in dual POV, so we get into the head of the luscious Rush Finlay! WOOHOO!!! And back in Rosemary, Rush is totally and utterly heartbroken after Blaire’s departure. He has lost the love of his life and is a shattered mess, and it’s devastating to see.

When events bring Blaire reluctantly back to town, Rush grabs the opportunity and slowly and gently starts to work on bringing Blaire back into his life. First stop – evil Nan. Yes! He finally stands up to her, and his smackdown with her had me cheering… loudly!

“Don’t assume I’m bluffing Nan. Because this time you’ve fucked with something I care about. This affects me, so listen and shut the hell up

“She’s back to find out where she fits and what to do next. She was doing that before but when the truth came out it sent her world crumbling so she ran. It’s a fucking miracle she’s back here. I want her back here, Nan. You may not want to hear this but I love her. I will stop at
nothing to make sure she’s safe. She is secure and no one and I do mean no one, not even my sister, makes her feel unwanted.”

Blaire does her best to keep Rush at arm’s length (much to my horror), but he is one determined man-in-love, and I love that he put himself right out there.

Fuck. So much for keeping this casual and easy. I pulled over onto the side of the road and slammed the Rover into park. I kept my hands to myself but I gave my full attention to Blaire. “I chose to take you today because there is nothing I’d rather do than be near you. I’m driving you because I’m a desperate man who will take whatever the hell he can get when it comes to you … I will do anything. Anything, Blaire, just to be near you. I can’t think about anything else. I can’t focus on anything. So never think you’re inconveniencing me. You need me, I’m there.”

Holy swoon!! Romantic, and in-love Rush is a beautiful, beautiful thing, and he had me grinning like a lunatic over and over again as he tried his best to win Blaire back.

“I’ll be whatever you allow me to be, Blaire. Just don’t shut me out again. Please.”

I must say that I was annoyed about Blaire’s continued refusal to get over the big ‘thing’, and her efforts to keep Rush away when it was so obvious that he was madly and desperately in love with her. But she eventually comes to her senses (or at least her hormones do), and OMFG – hot, steamy reunion sex!!! Oh yeah!!

But their road to a HEA is a hard one, filled with lots of drama. Drama, drama, drama! So much freaking drama!! The difference in their two worlds plays a big factor, and there are misunderstandings, family dramas, ex dramas and some stupid behaviour (as well as Blaire’s early stupidity, Rush had me screeching ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!’ on more than one occasion as the story progressed). But they love each other so deeply, and are so obviously meant to be, that they work through it, and it’s gorgeous to see them finally pull it all together.

“No. One. Comes. Before. You.”

Supporting them along the way are the always amazing Woods and Grant (love, love, love them both), and the hilariously fantastic Bethy, and even Jace. They are all incredible, and very protective of Blaire, each of them getting all up in Rush’s face at some point in the book. And the added tension with their family, and developments in this area were also pretty significant. But best of all, I love the dynamic of the Blaire / Woods friendship, he is so gorgeously protective of her, every girl should have a guy care for her like that. Especially when it brings out super-possessive Rush…

“You stay away from her. Do you hear me? Back the fuck off. Blaire loves me; she’s just confused and hurt. She’s also very vulnerable. So help me God, if you even think you’re going to take advantage of her current state I will beat the shit out of you.”

While parts of this book had me rolling my eyes or pulling my hair in frustration, I really liked where Blaire and Rush’s story went. There was so many gorgeous moments, and heaps of swoon, and I loved the ending, but it was so abrupt! I WANT MORE!!! Sure we’ll get to see them in the next two books of the series – Woods and Grant’s stories, but Blaire and Rush’s story is far from over. Apparently Abbi Glines is promising a bonus chapter, epilogue and possibly a whole new book… Yeah, she’s blatantly bribing her fans to get it, but hell I’ll still read it. God, who wouldn’t want more of this…

“No man has ever loved a woman as much as I love you. Nothing will ever come before you. I don’t know what else I have to do to prove to you that I won’t let you down again. I won’t hurt you. You don’t have to be alone anymore. I need you.”

SWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!

4 Rush-loving stars 🙂
