4 Mayson-lovin’ stars
The fourth and final book in the Until series featuring the seriously gorgeous and massively alpha Mayson brothers. One by one we have watched the Mayson brothers find their “boom” – that moment where they meet a woman and know that she is the one. And now it’s Nico’s turn.
Nico is sort of the ‘bad boy’ of the family. He’s as much a manwhore as his brothers, and the family is still incredibly close, but he left the family business to follow his own path, becoming a bounty hunter. He’s also pierced, covered in tatts, and doesn’t really believe in the concept of love at first sight. Until he meets Sophie.
Sophie is shy, quiet and very reserved. She has had a difficult life, and has arrived in Nashville to make a fresh start for herself – living quietly and keeping to herself. But all of that is about to change.
From the moment Nico and Sophie meet they share an attraction, and Nico makes his intentions clear, openly and determinedly pursuing her. Sophie is daunted by the bad boy at first, but she seems powerless to resist him, especially when she starts to see that he’s a total sweetheart. Nico is definitely an alpha but he doesn’t push her, showing his gentle and patient side, while at the same time letting her know that he won’t let her go.
“We are going to explore this thing between us. We are going to take it as slowly as you need, but you are not going to push me away. It’s not going to work. You push me, and I will push back.”
I loved this relationship! Yes, it’s fast moving, with Nico claiming Sophie as his early on, but he’s not a caveman like his older brothers. He knows that Sophie has issues from her past, and he accepts her as she is and does a great job balancing the fine line of supporting her, while pushing her to explore something with him. All while being caring, supportive, and there for in every way he can be and he does all that he can to make her feel safe.
“Baby, when you’re in a relationship, it’s give and take. It’s only right that I make you feel safe, because you make me feel whole.”
And when things eventually get physical – HOT DAMN! The Mayson boys are hot, and ARR can write some serious steam! Like his brothers, Nico is a dirty talker, and the sexy time is frequent, descriptive, and absolutely sizzling.
Like the other books in the series, the relationship is functional and angst-free. There is drama, but it’s all external to what’s happening between them, and I thought it was all handled really well – it’s there, but it’s not overdone, and it creates a bit of an edge to the story which I thought was well done. While sometimes a bit of angst is good, sometimes it’s a joy just to sit back and get lost in the love story, knowing that your heart is in safe hands and won’t get ripped to shreds by unnecessary relationship drama. It’s comfort food – in book form, and sometimes, it’s exactly what we need.
“I love you, and there is nothing on this earth I wouldn’t do for you. I would kill for you, walk through fire for you and fight your demons if that’s what you needed from me.”
There’s great progression for Nico and Sophie, and I loved how their story unfolded, and that we got to see so much of it. It isn’t just “I love you” and it’s over, we see beyond that to them settling down and making a life for themselves, and I love that. I also love that the rest of Nico’s family all played such a big part. We get to see his brothers, their girls, and their tribes of children, and it’s all tied off with a gorgeous epilogue (Nico in protective Daddy mode is hilariously heart-clenching to behold).
I’ve really enjoyed this series. These books are sexy but sweet, and swoonily romantic. I’m really excited to get into the multiple spin off series – starting with Kenton, the badass cousin, and then the kids! Yes, the kids get their own books too! This is a family I’m more than happy to get lost with, I can’t wait to continue on.
I loved it – 4 stars.
