The second book in the Dream Team series, and I was happily whisked away back to the world of KA alphas and feisty strippers for a heartfelt, fun and intense romance, with a touch of suspense, in a style that is all Kristen Ashley.

Boone and Ryn have been set up by their mutual friend, Lottie. The attraction is there and Boone has asked Ryn out a few times, but Ryn has been hurt badly by the men in her life and she’s turned him down every time. Besides, she’s crazy busy with her job dancing at Smithie’s, trying to renovate an investment property that she’s hoping will lead to a future flipping houses, and she’s pretty much the stand-in parent for her niece and nephew because both of their parents have completely checked out.

Boone is exactly the kind of man she needs – in more ways than one – and when he realises that Ryn is in trouble, in the way of all of KA’s protective and possessive alpha heroes, he steps in to take her back, while convincing her that he’s the right man for her.

“Baby, I want you,” he whispered back. “And if the happy birthday cookie doesn’t win you, I’ll find something that does. So tear down the walls, Ryn, I want in, I’m getting in and we’re gonna see where this goes.”

These two don’t have an easy ride to their HEA. There is a bit of back and forth between them as they find their way. They both make mistakes, but they own it, and of course we get a functional, passionate romance that is full of banter, sweet moments, and lengthy, heartfelt conversations.

“Love is a gift that’s the only gift there is that isn’t about earning it. People say that. Shit like, ‘You gotta earn her love,’ and it ticks me off. Because that’s not the way it works. Love just happens. It just blooms. Then it’s yours to give. And you give it.”

Boone and Ryn have another big factor tying them together – he is a Dom and she is a sub. A pretty big deal is made of this in the beginning of the story, but it doesn’t really factor in to their relationship other than their complete openness about all things sexual, and how their relationship will work. The sex is hot, but pretty vanilla really, so don’t let the BDSM stuff worry you if you’re not into reading about that kind of relationship, because it’s not a strong aspect of the story.

While they are finding their way together, Ryn has become the target of crooked cops, and it seems she’s got the protection of more than Boone and his boys, with an underground criminal also going all out to protect her. It adds some excitement, and that storyline will most likely continue to unfold throughout the series, but it happens in the background of the romance and Ryn’s family drama. It does allow for a fabulous bunch of cameos from the Dream Man, Rock Chick and Chaos series, and as always, I loved any amount of time I get with those characters that I love so much – the MC boys taking over house renovations had me laughing out loud.

We’re also introduced to Boone’s parents, who are freaking hilarious! They stole every scene they were in. Ryn’s mother also makes an appearance, and her family dramas with her brother and his ex, and her niece and nephew are a big part of the story, and I liked watching that all play out.

Boone and Ryn are a wonderfully strong couple. They have challenges to overcome, but their feelings for each other are strong, and once they finally get on the same page, neither of them play games or hold back from each other, and I loved watching their love story unfold.

I really enjoyed this read, and after hints of Hattie’s unusual behaviour in this book, I’m really excited to read her and Axl’s story up next.
