**Burn is the third and final book in the brother’s-best-friend, friends-to-lovers Fuel Series by Ginger Scott. This second-chance romance completes this angsty, steamy, new adult trilogy.
Dustin Bridge’s world is about speed. About the edge. His life has been carved by cutting corners and making moves, following impulsive decisions while weighing the facts at hand.
On the track, that has never steered him wrong.
In life, though? That’s another story.
On the cusp of greatness, the world’s up-and-coming racing star seems to be living the perfect story. A hero to his hometown. A partner to his best friend. A man poised to take the throne, to become the greatest, and to reap the rewards and attention that come along with it.
He’s been branded the track’s most eligible bachelor. And rarely does he cross a finish line without a dozen screaming, adoring women brandishing his name on glitter-covered T-shirts across their chests, just hoping he’ll break his own rules and take one of them to bed.
But he won’t. As loose as Dustin may be on the road, he’s become disciplined in life. He let love in completely—once. For one person. Hannah Judge. And she wrecked him.
And now, she’s back.
Review
5 stars for a fantastic finish!
This is an amazing finish to the Fuel trilogy, a series that took my emotions on a wild rollercoaster. The first book rocked my world, the second book sent me crashing, this book finishes Dustin and Hannah’s story on a huge high, and I absolutely loved it!
Confession: I started this book already so incredibly angry with Hannah. Her actions at the end of the last book were dramatic and unnecessary, and that epilogue sent me into a rage that has continued to burn brightly in the two weeks since I finished it. I was curious to see how (if) Ginger Scott was going to make it all work, and I am thrilled to say that she did. She took all of my emotions, played them brutally, and directed them exactly where she wanted to go, and within a few pages of this book I was right back on board, feeling it all, and desperate to see what was going to happen. Scott herself, put it best, when she said in the words of one of her characters…
“Whatever you may feel, be sure you listen and take it in before you react. If people’s stories were only a page long, there wouldn’t be books to read. Take in the entire arc. Understand the journey. It will be worth it, I swear.”
So with that message of hope, Dustin and Hannah’s story begins where the last book left off. After a separation of three years, Hannah has come home, and she and Dustin are together again for the first time since they broke up. So much has happened between these two over the course of the trilogy, it’s been a mad rollercoaster. But the bottom line, they were best friends, they love each other, and those feelings have never gone away.
I can’t go on with this miserable grudge between us. I don’t want to die hating one another. I don’t hate her. I miss her.
Dustin and Hannah are older now, they’re in their mid-20s and their experiences have changed them. This book explores all of that, and as they accept their feelings, face their pasts, and reveal their heartbreaking truths, they confront their issues head on, with honesty and without holding back. I’m so mad at some of their choices, and while I still don’t agree with their actions, at least now I can understand them more. Watching them work through it definitely helped me deal with my own feelings, and though it was an emotional read, it healed my heart and gave me everything that I was hoping for.
I want her to want nothing else, just me and us and our love and our lust.
I want to own her.
I want to love her. Again.
The love story between Dustin and Hannah is just stunning. These two are absolutely meant to be, and though they didn’t have an easy path, and definitely not a path I wanted for them, they are now mature enough to handle it properly. They know what they want, and they make the choice to fight for it, and I was able to move past my anger (you know, because it’s all about me), and embrace their romance once again. It’s passionate, sweet, swoony and full of chemistry, and I adored seeing these two together.
This is a love story. Us. The highs and lows all lead to one final conclusion, and that is us. No matter what is thrown at us, we persevere.
I still think events in the last book were over-dramatised, but so did the characters. They are flawed, and they admit they made bad choices. They regret it, they own it, and they learn from it, realising what is truly important in life, and they make the conscious decision to reach for that.
Now is the time to do the hard stuff … I won’t become cold and callous. I’ll never be mean. And when something holds the promise of love, I’ll see it through. I’ll fight for it. One hard step at a time.
And while obviously this book has drama, it’s blessedly low-angst (thank God!).
This trilogy has been a rollercoaster, but wow, what a read. In the first book I predicted that Dustin and Hannah’s story had the potential for epic romance, and this book achieved that. It’s meaningful and inspirational, it made me think, it made me smile and it made me cry, and it completely healed my heart. I was hooked from the very beginning, and finished reading in the small hours of this morning, unable to put it down. I loved it so much, and that epilogue left me smiling and completely satisfied.
Everyone’s road is different. How we get from our beginning to our end isn’t a straight line, but if it were, how boring would that be?
A wonderful finish, and a beautiful read – 5 stars.
