Another sweet, sexy romance from Kayley Loring! Her books are quickly becoming my happy place, and this one made me laugh, smile and swoon. I loved it!
This is the second book in the Brooklyn Boyfriends series, but is a complete standalone from the first, with no character crossover at all, so it can absolutely be read on its own.
Bernadette and Matt find themselves temporary neighbours when he moves into his aunt’s empty apartment following a relationship breakup. Apart from Bernadette’s instant love for Matt’s beloved dog, they have absolutely nothing in common – she is a quirky and creative painter who thinks she’s in love with her boss, he is a seemingly serious and closed-off lawyer getting over a long-term relationship. They don’t get off to a good start, but there is attraction there, and after flirting, teasing, epic banter, lusty glances, and one hot-as-hell kiss, they agree to a no-strings arrangement where they act on their mad lust for each other, with no expectations.
The chemistry between these two is sizzling, and the sex is off the charts hot. They are both feeling it, but Bernadette is adamant that they keep their emotional distance. And we can all see where the story goes from here…
It’s not a unique set-up, but it’s so much fun, and it’s really well done. Matt and Bernadette are great characters, and they have a great dynamic that is playful and flirty. They don’t hold back their attraction, and the banter is so entertaining. We soon see that Matt is not the cold and serious man we met at the beginning of the book – he is sweet, funny, thoughtful and caring, and I absolutely loved him. And Bernadette is funny and quirky, yet relatable. These two made me smile so many times, and I loved seeing them together.
Their non-relationship very easily becomes a friendship, which very easily becomes more. But as much as they may care about each other, opening their hearts completely is not so easy.
This is such a cute read. It’s fun, sweet and sexy, and I laughed so many times as I fell in love with these characters and their story. There’s a bit of drama as they both do some soul-searching and figure out what they want from each other, but it’s short-lived and resolved beautifully, and I finished this book feeling so satisfied, with a huge smile on my face.
I listened to this as an audiobook, narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Mackenzie Cartwright, and they do a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. It’s such a fun book to listen to.
I loved it – 4 stars.
