Blurb

Avery Spark is living her best life. Between her friends, her sisters, and Spark House, the event hotel her family owns, she doesn’t have much time for anything else, especially relationships. She’d rather hang out with her best friend and roommate, Declan McCormick, than deal with the dating scene. But everything changes when she is in a car accident and needs someone to care for her as she heals.

Declan avoids relationships, giving him a playboy reputation that he lives up to when he puts a one-night stand ahead of a promise he made to Avery. While he may not have been the one driving the car, he feels responsible for Avery’s injuries and is determined to make it up to her by stepping into the role of caretaker.

Little did they know that the more time they spend in compromising positions, the attraction they’ve been refusing to acknowledge becomes impossible to ignore. When they finally give in to the spark between them, neither is prepared for the consequences. Their love is fragile and all it will take is a blow from the past to shatter it all.

Review

4 stars!

When Sparks Fly is a entertaining friends-to-lovers full of so much heart. It’s a slightly different take on the trope than I have read before and I really enjoyed it!!

Declan and Avery have been best of friends since college. Though there was an attraction for the beginning, they were only ever friends. When Avery started dating Declan’s best friend, it pushed them further into the friend-zone where they have stayed. Even after Sam and Avery broke up, they have never crossed the line.

Avery wants to find love but hasn’t really connected with anyone since she her breakup with Sam crushed her and broke her heart. Declan on the other hand isn’t looking for love. His view of relationships was ingrained in him when he was young because of the way his parents were and he doesn’t see a forever with someone in his future.

When Avery gets in a car accident and Declan feels the blame, he takes over her care and they become even closer. He is all in when it comes to helping Avery and lines start to blur when they least expect it.

This book is so much fun but also brings us serious situations and feelings. It’s a sweet romance between best friends who fall for each other when circumstances bring them even closer together. The transition from friends to lovers happens organically as Declan becomes Avery’s caregiver. I felt the attraction and the building tension the more time they spend together.

The attraction I once felt back when we were freshman in college seems to have found its way out of the friendship box I stuffed it into years ago.

When they finally give in, they bring on the heat and they try hard to keep things causal but it’s hard to go back once the lines are crossed and if things go bad, their friendship may not be salvageable.

For so long, we were magnets unpolarized. Facing the wrong way and orbiting each other, missing the connection until the world finally aligned and brought us together, only to tear us apart again.

There are some growing pains while they navigate uncharted relationship territory and while it hurt my heart, I understand why things happen the way they do, and I loved that they know what each other needs. I really enjoyed seeing Declan’s growth and Avery’s patience. I was full on rooting for them to work things out!

The secondary characters were fantastic. I loved Declan and Avery’s friends and I adored Avery’s sisters, Harley and London. I desperately want more of all of them and also more of Spark House!!
