I’m a good criminal.
I’m an even better deviant.
Ask anyone, and they’ll tell you I’m Mayhem’s favorite a**hole. But I have a problem. I broke Faith Decker’s heart. She spent the last seven years avoiding me. Now that she’s back in town, I’m making it my mission to win her back…even if I have to chain her to my bed until she realizes we belong together.
When Faith gets caught in the crossfire of the Unholy’s war with a drug lord, trust and believe I’ll unleash hell on anyone who hurts her.
Review
“We’re an inferno, and we’re going to set this whole fucking town on fire.”
5 stars!
Renee Rocco blew me away with the first book in this series, and she’s followed it up brilliantly with a raw, gritty story with fantastic characters, laugh-out-loud dark humour, and a gorgeously emotional second-chance-romance. I was captivated from start to finish, and I absolutely loved it!
Jester was a complete scene-stealer in the last book, and I was so excited to read more about him. Set in a post-second-civil-war US, where gangs have risen to power, Jester and his best friends belong to one of the most brutal – the Unholy, a gang that rules Mayhem, a small town that runs on debauchery with the belief that you should be free to be you without shame or persecution. The Unholy is the law though, keeping the town safe and protecting its citizens, and going to any lengths to do so.
As his name would suggest, Jester is the clown of the group. His unabashed love of his darkly dangerous life, lack of filter and sarcastic wit make him a hilarious member of the Unholy, and though he feels deeply, he is always the one running his mouth, teasing his friends, and living wild and without consequence. And God, I love him!
The outside world is way too serious.
Someone needs to be the clown.
It might as well be me since I’m so damn good at it.
Faith was born in Mayhem, but left to attend College. Feisty and bold, she grew up with the Unholy boys, and she and Jester (then known as Luke) were madly in love. They were the golden couple of their high school, and they felt more for each other than even they could comprehend, but it ended badly when Jester broke her heart. He did it intentionally, knowing she needed a clean break from him and the town, and he broke his own heart in the process. Faith has been away for seven years, and she has missed her home town; it’s still very much a part of her, so she’s moved back, even though she knows it means she will inevitably run into the man she has spent seven years hating.
I’m not a chicken shit. Nor am I the same broken teenager who limped out of Mayhem with her tail between her legs. I grew into this bitch, and he better recognize who the hell he’s playing with real quick, because one thing is for damn sure, this town is too small for us to be at war.
Although Main Street would look lovely decorated with his intestines.
I’m just saying…
Jester and Faith’s reunion is explosive. There is SO much emotion between them, and you just know you’re in for an epic adventure with these two as Faith lets her anger loose, and Jester – in his own unique style – decides that now is the time to finally win back the woman he’s never been able to get over.
I should let it go. Let her go. I shouldn’t care if she’s come home. Faith isn’t my business.
Oh yeah? Then why am I taking her rejection as a challenge.
Oh, right, because I’m an asshole.
Game on.
They have a sensational dynamic, and it’s so damn entertaining watching them go back and forth. Jester is full of remorse for hurting Faith, but he’s not about to let their past get in the way of winning her back, and he goes all out to get his girl. Faith is so hurt by their past, but soon finds herself wrestling with her memories of the boy Jester was with her growing feelings for the man that he has now become. She works through it sensibly and realistically, with Jester pursuing her openly and relentlessly, and their chemistry sizzles, with every encounter building the sexual tension brilliantly.
We were an awesome couple when we were teenagers, until he ruined it. The adult versions? Not a good idea. He’s too…Jester. I’m too…Faith. Together we make for an explosive, if not toxic, combination of anger and sarcasm. We’ll destroy each other. “You need to let me go.”
“I let you go once.” His tender kiss on my forehead tears me apart. “Never again.”“I’ve owned you since our first kiss…” His lips brush across mine. “And I’ll tell you a secret.” He cups my core, and I swallow a sigh as my body begs for him. “You own me, too.”
When Faith becomes a target for the Unholy’s enemies, the two of them are drawn together as Jester goes all out to protect his girl, and things start to change, and watching these two find their way back to each other is so beautiful! Jester is sweet and caring, and the way he puts himself completely out there in his efforts to win Faith back is just gorgeous. Their feelings for each other are intense, and I loved how honest they are with each other! Their love story is amazing and I loved every moment as they reconnected
“You’ll break my heart again.”
Jester releases my hands, and on instinct, I wrap them around him and hold him as if he’s an anchor and I’m lost on a raging sea. He hugs me close and whispers in my ear, “Never again, Faith. I swear it on my fucking life. Never again.”
It’s no surprise that Jester the joker is all alpha male in the bedroom, but he’s also got a huge, beautiful, romantic heart. Their reunion is steamy and emotional, and the two of them together have this feeling of absolute rightness. Their moments together are sweet, fun and natural, they both give as good as they get, and they are a powerhouse!
“You know I never stopped loving you, right?”
But with life in the Unholy, danger is never far away, and the club’s hunt for a drug dealer disseminating in their town will bring the threat right to their door. And right when they’ve found each other again, they could lose it all.
I loved this book. It’s dark and gritty, with a touch of danger which brings tension and excitement, but mostly, it’s a gorgeous love story between two incredible characters. I fell in instant love with both Jester and Faith, and I adored them together so much.
We get to see the rest of the Unholy boys, and they are such a great bunch! There are hints dropped for Havoc’s book up next, and I am so looking forward to that one.
I’m loving this series, and absolutely loved this one – 5 stars!
