The world gave me everything.
After surviving a plane crash, I was lucky to be alive. It was a harsh truth, but one that changed my perspective on how fragile life could be.
So when a fellow survivor caught my eye, I owed it to myself to take a chance and follow my heart.
Bowen Michaels was guarded and broody, but I saw through his well-formed armor. Much like me, he was broken and lost, but together we found our way through the darkness.
For a brief moment, wrapped in his arms, it felt like maybe he was right about fate and we’d been destined to find each other all along.
But when buried secrets of the past erupt, igniting us both, it was hard to believe we’d been fated for anything other than failure.
The world gave me everything.
And then it took it all away.

”The world gave me everything.

The second book in The Difference trilogy, and wow, Aly Martinez has given us another heart-pounding, dramatic and beautifully romantic read that continues Bowen and Remi’s passionate and heartfelt romance, and pulls us deeper into their captivating story.
This is absolutely not a standalone, and there is very little I can say that won’t give away spoilers from book #1, [book:The Difference Between Somebody and Someone|52283593], so I’ll keep my review vague. And do yourself a favour and don’t go looking for spoilers – this story unfolds exactly as it’s meant to, so just sit back and enjoy the tumultuous ride. Martinez has created a wonderful set-up for these two, and after falling in mad love with these characters and their heartwrenching story in the last book, I couldn’t wait to read more.
In the first book, we met Bowen and Remi, and saw them fall in love. Both survivors of a devastating plane crash, they carry emotional and physical scars, but despite that, they fell into an easy, happy, healing relationship that is sweet, playful, full of emotion and wickedly sexy. Now, we get more of their beautiful love story, while at the same time we see more backstory – specifically, the time immediately following the crash and how that has shaped events in the present.
Perfect didn’t exist for me and Remi. We were battered soldiers fighting an endless war. A war I tirelessly waged day after day and night after night.
Wow, my heart was aching at all that these characters have been through, and seeing more of that trauma allows us to more fully understand them and the decisions they have made. I hurt for both of them, and at the same time was so happy that they managed to find each other, and find such blissful happiness together.
Remi Grey had been born to be mine.
But secrets are uncovered that will change everything, and again, my heart hurt watching it all unfold. There are some pretty huge reveals, some that actually had me gasping out loud and rereading sections to take it all in, and then a twist which once again turns the story on its head. We’re left with another brutal cliffhanger, and I have so many question, and am desperate to know how it’s all going to end up.
“Who are you?” I whispered.
… “Same person I’ve always been: yours.”
Thanks God we don’t have to wait too long, and I can’t wait for Bowen and Remi to finally get the happy ending that they so desperately deserve in the third and final book in the trilogy.
Such a great read – 4.5 stars.

About Aly Martinez
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her husband and four young children. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.
She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
