Blurb

What I meant to do in Vegas: Let my hair down for once and celebrate winning a medal at my first women’s hockey all-stars competition.

What I actually did: Got senior prom drunk and woke up married to Brooklyn’s star winger, the great Neil Drake.

He’s the heir to a billion dollars, and I barely survived my childhood. Our friendship is based strictly only on hockey, takeout food, and smack talk.

And now holy matrimony. Although we both know it can’t last, especially once his evil family gets wind of our Vegas shenanigans…

Contains: Meddling teammates, meddling parents, ugly jewelry and a pretend-kiss that nearly sets the world on fire.

4.5 stars!

The latest instalment in the Brooklyn Hockey series brings the Bruisers and the Bombshells together again in a drunk Vegas wedding / fake romance story for billionaire hockey player Neil Drake, and feisty female hockey player, Charli. It’s fun, sexy, and gorgeously emotional, and I loved this book!

The memories from the night before are hazy for both Neil and Charli when they wake up married in Vegas, but they’re on a time crunch to get to a game and can’t deal with it right away, so they grab a flight back home while they try to untangle the events of their night, and their unexpected nuptials. They’ve been sort-of friends for a while, but what makes the whole thing so hilarious is that there is a clear attraction between them, one that Charli intends to ignore, and their openness, banter and smack-talk is freaking gold!

“This thing between us is just something we’ll have to ignore.”
“Easy for you to say. I’m the one with the thing between us.” I gesture toward my erection. “I’ve got the hots for you and a dick that’s eager to prove himself after last night’s disasters.”
“Tell it to sit down.”
“Fine. You’re welcome to sit down on it.”
“I walked right into that one, didn’t I?”
“Yes, you did.”

Charli survived a horrible childhood of near-poverty, neglect and abuse, and is constantly trying to keep her head above water. She’s stubborn, proud and determined to support herself, but when Neil offers her a place to stay in his luxury apartment to get out of her awful flat and save some money in exchange for pretending their marriage is real for a few months, she agrees – especially because she’ll be helping him out as well. Neil is an absolute sweetheart, and the heir to a fortune, but his family politics are a constant source of stress. Having a wife on his arm will give him the chance to untangle himself from the drama, and bonus – it’s Charli, and he’s not ready to let her go just yet.

And so, we get a fake relationship thrown in after the drunken Vegas wedding, and the set-up and dynamics are so much fun! They don’t hide the fact that they’re attracted to each other, but Charli won’t go there, so we get lots of flirting and steamy looks as Neil tries to change her mind, and their pretending to be together just adds to the fun and intensity of it all.

“They aren’t fuck-me heels!” Charli shouts.
“Are too!” I shout back. I know this because tonight I’m going to be lying in that damn bed thinking about them, wishing someone would fuck me.
Specifically, Charli.

They manage to keep the rouse going… until all of that chemistry and sexual tension becomes impossible to ignore and they just give into it. The sex is hot and passionate, still with that playful edge, but there’s an emotional side to it too which shows us just how good these two are together. But they only agreed to stay married for a short time… unless there’s a chance for more?

“I want you in my life, Charli, I want a real chance with you.”

This is a gorgeous romance. Neil is honest, caring and considerate, with a bit of a wicked side and I absolutely loved him! He wants Charli and holds nothing back from her in his efforts to show her just how good they could be together.

Charli has been through a lot, and she’s understandably terrified. She’s been rejected her whole life, nobody has ever put her first or fought for her, so she has no clue how to handle Neil. There is a bit of drama, and my heart hurt so much for her, but it’s a great journey watching these two be there for each other and figure it all out.

“I want to be the guy in your corner … But I can’t do it unless you let me be that guy.”

Characters from previous books make an appearance, and I loved catching up with this crew. They are such a great bunch – funny and all up in each other’s business, and endlessly entertaining.

The mix of the wonderful characters, the gorgeous love story, the family dramas (on both sides) and the excitement of the professional hockey world make this a fantastically entertaining read, and I absolutely loved it.

4.5 stars!
