The world took everything from us.
As survivors of not only a plane crash, but two other impossible tragedies, we’d more than earned a life of peace. But time and time again, we were shown that fate had no intention of giving that to us.
Remi and I were soulmates. Plain and simple. Our love should have died in the depths of our darkness, but the sun still exists even when it’s not shining.
The secrets of our past threatened to destroy us at every turn, but for Remi, I would never stop fighting for our future.
The world took everything from us.
And we would stop at nothing until we took it all back—forever.
Review
We’d survived the unimaginable. Fought a war against fate … And loved harder than any two people in the history of the universe.
5 stars and all the feels!
The final book in The Difference trilogy, Aly Martinez continued to hold my heart in her hands as I read, and though this is yet another rollercoaster for our tortured soulmates, she’s given us a beautiful ending for Bowen and Remi’s incredible love story, and I loved seeing them finally get the happy ending that I wanted so badly for them.
This book is absolutely not a standalone, so make sure you read the first two books in the trilogy, and be prepared for a wildly emotional, twisted ride. I won’t give a rehash here because anything I say will be completely spoilery – just do yourself a favour and read it, because it’s an amazing story from start to finish.
This book picks up right where the last one left off, and watching the cliffhanger play out had my heart pounding pretty much right away. The resolution of it provides even more answers to the complex history of these characters, and setting them off on the next stage of their emotional journey.
She’d once told me loving someone through, despite, and after the impossible was the definition of success in a relationship. Here we were again, smack-dab in the middle of the unimaginable, being forced to claw our way out.
After everything that has happened, Remi is reeling, and it’s no wonder. The poor girl has been through so much, and she’s desperately trying to deal with it all and figure out who she is at the end of it. I could absolutely empathise with her, and thought she handled her situation sensibly and maturely.
“You still believe in fate, right?”
…“I believe in us, Remi. I will always believe in us.”
Bowen has been a phenomenal support for Remi, and the most amazing romantic hero, and he continues that in this book. He’s understanding and caring, and he loves her so very deeply, but let’s not forget that he has been through his own heartwrenching trauma, and my heart ached for him as he is put to the test once again.
“You can be whoever the hell you want and I will still want you in every single way that matters.”
Yes, there is more heartache, but the way their story unfolds is so gorgeous, and allows us to experience all the amazing things about this couple. Their dynamic is so much fun, and as they fought their way through the turmoil and back again, I was laughing at their banter and antics, and loved seeing that flirtatious and playful part of their connection that drew me to them in the first place. They laugh together, they tease and banter, the chemistry is off the charts, and their passion for each other is absolutely sizzling.
It’s a bit of a rollercoaster, but through it all they are honest and real with each other, they hold nothing back from each other, and they are both prepared to fight hard for what they want, and watching them overcome so much to finally reach where they want to be is so beautiful.
You’re here. That’s all I need. It’s the earth under my feet. The air in my chest. The life in my veins.” His hand roamed up my chest and neck to the side of my face, causing my eyes to flutter. “You’re all I’ll ever need.”
And all of the emotion is worth it to see the absolutely sensational happy ending. It’s everything that I was hoping for, and we get to see every single moment that I wanted to see – every touch, every declaration, every reaction, and I relished in every little moment. And there’s an epilogue which gives us a glimpse into the future, and provides the epic closure that I so needed for this couple after seeing them endure so much.
This story has captured me heart and soul since the moment I started reading it. I feel like I’ve been on such a journey with these characters – I have laughed, cried and loved with them, and I finished this book feeling satisfied and so happy that they finally got their happy.
“Maybe that’s what makes us so perfect. We’re like a kaleidoscope. When all the broken shapes are together, they form the most beautiful whole.”
This was a perfect finish for this amazing story. 5 stars!

About Aly Martinez
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her husband and four young children. Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.
She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
