The final book in the Twisted series, this is an intense, chemistry-filled fake-relationship romance with an irresistible, broody antihero, and the woman who is his only weakness.
Stella is the fourth member of a group of best friends who have books in this series. She is the shy one of the group, but is a well-known fashion blogger who works hard for the success that she longs for. She sees the love that her friends have found, and though she wants that for herself, it’s in more of an abstract kind of way, because she’s happy being single and doesn’t really have the time, or the desire, to go out and look for love. Stella has been quiet in previous books, and I was excited to get to know her, and we very quickly learn that she’s dealing with challenges that not even her friends are aware of.
Christian Harper is the billionaire businessman who owns the building that Stella lives in. He runs his own security company and is a tech genius who occasionally operates outside of the law, but he’s powerful and cold enough to get away with it, and God, he’s so intriguing! We saw glimpses of him in the last book of the series, where he was clearly very taken with his new tenant, so when he discovers that Stella needs a fake boyfriend to help her online presence, he proposes a mutually-beneficial fake relationship – with strict rules in place to protect them both, of course.
“Careful, Stella.” His low warning pulsed between my legs. “I’m not the gentleman you think I am.”
… My reply fought its way past my dry throat. “I don’t think you’re a gentleman at all.”
A slow, lazy smile tugged at his lips. “Smart girl.”
Despite their blazing attraction, they manage to follow the rules, but when a stalker from Stella’s past resurfaces and she is in danger, Christian moves her in to his apartment to protect her while he hunts down the threat, and that’s when things get really interesting.
Darkness was always drawn to light, but I wasn’t just drawn to her; I was fucking obsessed. I would throw myself into her flame and let it burn me alive if it meant her warmth was the last thing I felt before I died.
I love these characters so much. Stella is sweet and strong, but she has vulnerabilities, and I thought she was so relatable And Christian… *dreamy sigh*. He has this cool, confident elegance that conceals his inner beast, and though he appears smooth and unruffled, the man is pure alpha male. Stella is his undoing, and with her, we get to see his well-hidden softer side, and I loved watching him wrestle his feelings – and clearly lose – as she drives herself further and further underneath his skin.
Oh my God, the chemistry between Christian and Stella is insane! It’s like a separate character in the book, underpinning every single interaction between them, and there’s this sense of anticipation that drips off every page just waiting for something to happen.
When I claimed Stella as mine, I would do it so fucking thoroughly there wouldn’t be a shred of doubt in either of our minds as to who she belonged to…or who I belonged to in return.
It’s an intense and delicious slow burn, and the sexual tension was killing me, but the build-up is totally worth it. We get to see them bickering and bantering, slowly opening up to each other, softening towards each other, and fighting against their raging attraction. We see so much of who they truly are, so that when the inevitable happens, there’s a strong emotional connection there that makes it even more climactic (in all senses of the word).
It was only a matter of time before the dark chemistry between us exploded into something neither of us could come back from.
It’s just as sexy, passionate and intense as I was expecting, and God, I love these two together! Even with all of that fire, there is a playfulness to them, and so much emotion. And more than just their lusty attraction, they are truly there for each other, they encourage each other and grow with each other, and the character development is beautifully written and so satisfying to watch. Stella gains confidence, and stands up for herself to fight for what she wants, and I was so proud of her! And Christian’s emotional side is unleashed as he discovers the depth of love that he’s capable of. There’s a lot of heart in this story, and those softer, more tender moments are beautifully written.
“I thought you don’t believe in love,” I teased.
“You’re right. That was the wrong word … Because love is ordinary. Mundane. And you, Stella … You’re extraordinary.”
But there are secrets between them, and we all know that never turns out well. There is some drama, and a touch of suspense, and it all blends together really well for an exciting and emotional read with twists and surprises that kept me completely captivated.
The rest of the characters from the series all appear, and I loved seeing the whole crew together. The girls are fabulous, of course, and the boys are such an eclectic bunch and the scenes with them together had me laughing at the randomness of it all. But I loved seeing them all again, and loved that we got some continuation for each of the couples, and even a glimpse into their future with a phenomenal epilogue which provides wonderful closure for the series.
There’s also a little bit more of mysterious character, Dante, which I really enjoyed, as he’ll be the main character in King of Wrath, the first book in the upcoming Kings of Sin series, and I cannot wait for that!
I loved this book. It has all of the intensity, emotion and romance that I was hoping for, and it’s a great finish to the series.
