Blurb

When Lena rekindles a friendship with a former flame during her favorite season, it leads to a healing revelation for them both.

It was supposed to be one coffee. That’s what you do when you’re a divorced mom and decide to message an old college fling. Except Reid is now the professor that college students say is irresistible, and he just happens to live in the town I am moving to (found out after the fact, I swear!). I tell myself it doesn’t matter, that I locked up and buried my feelings for Reid long ago. So, it only makes sense to catch up over pumpkin-spiced lattes, and by the time the barista kicks us out at closing, we realize we could both use a friend right now—each other.

The spark between us should have been my warning.

Our encounters remind me of a different time, and the attraction between us lingers in the air. It doesn’t take long before the dear professor is skipping grading papers in favor of having me in his bed. But I have reasons to guard my heart, and for once I’m the one in control of our dynamic. And somewhere during the changing season, we ponder the idea that maybe, in life, we are meant to fall in love twice…

Review

“You’re mine, and I’ll be damned if I let you go this time.”

4 stars

A sweet and sexy novella with a heartfelt second-chance-romance, this book was instantly irresistible to me. I devoured it in a couple of hours, and I loved it!

Newly-divorced Lena is moving across the country with her 6-year-old son after her marriage slowly fizzled. What are the chances that she would be moving to the small suburb where her ex-college hookup lives? She and Reid were close friends in college, who became friends-with-benefits. They never discussed an actual relationship, and though Lena wanted more, she knew Reid wasn’t ready, so they enjoyed themselves together for one hot and steamy year before they went off and lived their lives. Now, it’s ten years later and when Lena reaches out to her ex-lover out of the blue, he is just as eager as she is to catch up.

Reid is now a college professor. He’s single, and has been through a bit since he and Lena parted ways. He is thrilled when she pops back into his life, and over coffees, dinners and shopping trips, they catch up on their lives, and Reid realises just how lonely and closed off his life has become now that he has Lena back breathing life back into his world.

The attraction between these two sizzles from their first encounter. They’re a little bit flirty, but also wary of their history, of what they’ve been through in the intervening years, and of their current situation. Neither of them want to jump into anything, but they don’t hide from the chemistry that still crackles between them, and I loved watching them reunite!

“I cared for you. It’s not like I could ever forget you.”

What I loved about this story is how real it felt. They don’t rush anything, there’s no wild or extravagant situation that brings them together. It’s just two old friends with a mildly complicated history finding their way back to the easy friendship that they once had. Their feelings for each other were always strong, but they never got a chance to really be together, and now they’re older, they’ve lived a little bit, and they are finally in a place where they can act on all of those feelings – flirting and teasing and building sexual tension with each and every encounter.

The wildness comes when they finally act on it, because holy hell, seemingly mild-mannered Reid is a demon in the sack, and their passion for each other is fiery and intense.

“I want to explore every inch of you, the way you are now.”

But there was a reason they didn’t get together all those years ago. And now Lena is a single mother with a little boy to consider. There’s no doubt they want each other, but they have to figure out whether they’re at the same place and ready for everything they could be, and I loved watching them do just that.

“We weren’t meant to be then, but now we have no excuse because we may just be everything we were waiting for.”

This is such a cute romance. It’s sweet, flirty and functional, Reid and Lena are so real with each other, and the chemistry and romance is gorgeous. It’s a short read, but I could still feel everything that was happening between these characters, and the book ends beautifully, with two epilogues which bring great closure.

This is right, what it’s supposed to be.
I like who I am now, I like who he is, and most of all, we are better now than then.

Such a cute read, I loved it! 4 stars!
