How to Lose at Love by Sara Ney is live!
A college sports, fake relationship, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance that is fun, heartfelt and laugh-out-loud funny. With a strong and feisty heroine and an adorably clueless, ‘give-no-fucks’ alpha hero, this is a great read!

I needed a good girl to save my bad reputation.
With too much on my plate, the very last thing on my mind was a relationship—the football draft was looming and dating got in the way. I never understood why my teammates bothered with girlfriends. None of us had the time.
When my sports agent suggested that being seen in public with a respectable girl would be good for my bad reputation, I couldn’t think of a single person to help me out. The only girls I knew weren’t wifey material, and the ones who were? Might catch feelings.
Except Ryann Winters.
Responsible. Sarcastic. Smart. Ryann was perfect but there was one clincher: she was my teammates ex-girlfriend and I had recently been paid by him to dump her.
Not the best start to a fake relationship…

4 stars!
I love this book! A college sports, fake relationship, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers romance that is fun, heartfelt and laugh-out-loud funny. With a strong and feisty heroine and an adorably clueless, ‘give-no-fucks’ alpha hero, this is a great read, and I really enjoyed this one!
Dallas Colter is a college quarterback and football superstar who is expected to go #1 in the NFL draft. The only problem is his personal life, specifically, the fact that he doesn’t have one. His whole world is football, and he sees no problem with that. So when his agent recommends he finds himself a nice, respectable, responsible girl to be seen in public with, he has no idea what to do.
Ryann is contemplating ending a strange and unfulfilling relationship. She and her ‘boyfriend’ have been dating for two months, but there is really nothing to the relationship – they rarely spend time together, they’re not physical, they’ve never even kissed! She’s about to end it all when one of her ‘boyfriend’s’ teammates approaches her at her work and dumps her on his behalf (her boyfriend having no clue how to do it himself).
”So. I’m just going to rip off the Band-Aid.” Dallas Colter pulls his hands out of his jacket pockets and claps them together definitively. “Diego is breaking up with you.”
I’m sorry. What? “Excuse me?”
“I said, Diego is breaking up with–”
I hold my freezing-cold hand in the air. “No, I heard you. I just…” I start to laugh. “That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.”
It’s a fabulously entertaining introduction for Dallas and Ryann, and understandably, she instantly hates him. So when Dallas needs to find a fake girlfriend who won’t hang off him like a groupie, Ryann is the obvious choice. And she, thinking that she could teach the dumb jock something about women and relationships, agrees.
“The thought of sex with me makes you want to barf?”
What the actual fuck. Never in my damn life have I ever had—
“Kind of. You’re not exactly my type.”
Ryann Winters is so full of shit right now I can’t believe she can sit there and say that with a straight face. Not my type my ass. I’m everyone’s fucking type!
Even guys want to have sex with me!
Who is she kidding?
Though initially full of snark, it doesn’t take long for things to shift into a flirtatious, sort-of friendship, which is so much fun as they tease and hold absolutely nothing back from each other. And as attraction sparks, things get steamy, feelings become involved, and Dallas and Ryann are in uncharted territory. But, true to their natures, they just jump right in, doing what feels right, and I loved watching them navigate it all.
“So what I’m hearin’ – just to make sure I’m not misunderstandin’ you – is that you…like me.”
Like him. “Sure. That’s one way of putting it.”
That makes him laugh.
He grins at me. “Is it so hard to say you have the hots for me?”
These characters are so awesome! Ryann is smart, confident and sassy, I love the way she handles Dallas, and she’s at her best when she’s pushing all of his buttons. And Dallas is a fabulous character! He’s a football jock, smart, funny and cocky, and the man gives no fucks – he says and does whatever he wants, and what you see is what you get. With that comes this fabulous innocence. He doesn’t play games, and doesn’t expect others to either. He’s a straight-talker, and doesn’t do (or pick up on) subtlety, and watching him experience a relationship and feelings for the first time is so awesome!
“God, I hate this.”
“Hate what?”
“Hate how this is so hard.”
“What’s hard?” And no, I’m not trying to make a dick joke.
“This…telling you how I feel.”
“You’re telling me how you feel?” I am so confused right now.
He hides nothing, and I love his honesty, which led to some gorgeously tender moments when the big tough guy realises that the girl he’s falling for, is falling right back.
“It’s hard, you know? Who would want to take all this one?”
Ryann’s lips part. Her shoulders move up and down in a shrug. “Me. I would.”
She would.
It’s such a sweet romance, and though the pressure of a relationship in the public eye does cause some issues, I enjoyed watching them figure it all out and get their happy ending.
“You’re the only thing I get to choose that’s choosing me back.”
Such a fun read, I loved this one – 4 stars!
