Release, ARC Review & Giveaway: Blanket of Stars (Camp Bexley, #4) by K.K. Allen

Blanket of Stars by K.K. Allen is live!

The fourth and final book of the Camp Bexley series is the story of youngest Bexley brother, Cayson, and wow, what a romantic hero! He absolutely shines in this friends-to-lovers/teach-me-how-to-sex story as the sweet, strong yet inexperienced hero who takes on a fiercely independent heroine who is determined to keep him in the friendzone.

Blurb

All Cayson Bexley ever wanted was to fly…
Until a near-fatal crash clipped his wings, sending the injured military pilot back to his hometown and living right next door to me.

From the moment our eyes meet, the attraction is undeniable.
I mean who wouldn’t fall for that achingly gorgeous face, clean-cut demeanor, and sweet, small-town charm?

Other than our mutual love of music, we’re as opposite as two people can be.
Which is precisely why I friend-zone him the moment he shows interest.
But as time goes on, my heart softens to this man who once had it all—a literal hero floundering to find his purpose.

In the midst of my own struggles, I could certainly use a friend.
Heck, I could use more than that.
And I’m not afraid to let Cayson know it.

When I discover my hunk of a neighbor is as shy as he is inexperienced, I offer him a distraction he can’t possibly refuse.
We already share a very thin wall.
Why not a bed too?

There’s only one catch: he’ll have to promise not to fall in love with me…

A no-strings hook-up is every man’s dream, right?
What could possibly go wrong?

The fourth and final book of the Camp Bexley series brings us the story of youngest Bexley brother, Cayson, and wow, what a romantic hero! He absolutely shines in this friends-to-lovers/teach-me-how-to-sex story as the sweet, strong yet inexperienced hero who takes on a fiercely independent heroine who is determined to keep him in the friendzone.

Having spent most of the series either comatose or in recovery from a brutal plane crash, Cayson is a now-retired military pilot back at home and trying to figure out his life now that his one and only dream is gone. Olivia is the best friend of Brooklyn (heroine of the last book), and she caught Cayson’s eye when they met in the last book, but she’s sort-of seeing a burgeoning rock star, so when he makes a move she politely turns him down. Now they find themselves living next door to each other, and friendship quickly blossoms. Cayson and Olivia are all up in each other’s lives, and when Cayson reveals his lack of experience with the ladies, newly-single Olivia volunteers to teach him – in all the ways – as long as he promises not to fall in love with her.

Of course, Cayson is already in love with Olivia, but knowing that this is his chance with the woman he wants, and hoping that she’ll change her mind, he dives in and proves to be an eager student as they practice the practical and (very) physical aspects of dating. Cayson is a natural, and it’s not long before the two of them are totally hot and heavy with each other, and damn, it’s steamy!

There’s a beautiful connection between these two, and they very quickly find themselves in a relationship-but-not-really a relationship. Cayson is all in, completely and whole-heartedly devoted to Olivia and praying that she’s falling for him too. But he is so completely the opposite of the bad boy, angsty rocker guys she usually goes for, and she’s terrified to take a chance on him, thinking that she’ll end up breaking his heart.

I’m already in love with her.
How can she still be oblivious to how naturally we fit together? Not only our bodies when we make love but in ways that turn every intimate moment into something more. She’s not just the girl next door. She’s my everything. And I want to be hers.

It’s such a fun beginning for them, I was loving their chemistry, their banter, and the fun, playful, easy relationship between them. But it does become frustrating, and I so wanted to give Olivia a shake! Cayson is pretty much perfect – and perfect for her – she’s completely fallen for him, though refuses to actually admit it, and her reasons for continually keeping her emotional distance seemed weaker as the story went on.

“While you may be perfect to me, you carry scars that make you question your worth. You fall for men who feed into those insecurities instead of the men who help you carry them.”

There is drama and back and forth, and I completely had Cayson’s back through all of it! My heart ached for him, and I longed for his happy ending, and I was so happy when it finally came. He deserved it so much, and it was so satisfying watching Olivia come to realise what is right in front of her, and the way it all came together for them.

“What if I want to fall in love with you? … What if I already have?”

Cayson’s brothers and their girls are a part of the story, there’s some great progression for them and a nice wrap-up for the dramatic family storyline that has been woven throughout the series. I would have loved an epilogue to show us a glimpse of everybody into the future, but I was content at how it ended, with the boys all loved-up and happy, and finally home where they belong. I’ve really enjoyed this series.

3.5 stars.
