3.5 hot and steamy stars

This is a short and steamy paranormal read, the beginning of the To Be Claimed series, and a seriously sexy story of a pack of shifters claiming their mates. It’s fun and fast (and did I say sexy?), and I enjoyed losing myself in this world.

Set in the contemporary world where humans are aware of the existence of the supernatural around them, the town of Shadow Falls has a treaty with the local werewolf pack where they are protected from the evil of vampires and witches in return for ‘The Offering’, where human women aged 19-21 are presented to the pack, and they can choose to take one for purposes which nobody knows. It happens every year, but it’s been over 100 years since a woman has been taken, but when Grace and her best friend, Lizzie, are presented for the first time, they both get picked, and soon find themselves swept up into a whole new world.

Devin is the shifter pack alpha, who has finally found his fated mate in Grace, while pack betas Caleb and Dom are stunned to find that fate has gifted them Lizzie to share as theirs. Both women are terrified by the sudden shift in their lives, and fierce Grace goes head to head with Devin, which only excites the alpha more. His mate may be human, but she is strong, and he’s the only one who can handle the fireball and soothe her needs.

Lizzie’s reaction to being taken is visceral. She’s deeply traumatised by hell that she endured as a child, and she’s horrified that just as she’s finding her feet in life, this has happened to her. She’s also hiding a pretty big secret which exacerbates her fears and trauma. But luckily, she has two completely devoted shifters whose primary goal is to see to her every need.

More erotica/romance than actual story, this is a fun bit of escapism, and there’s no real storyline other than the men getting their women adjusted to their new reality… in all the ways. It’s hot and steamy as hell but there’s a nice emotional element to it (even if it is supernaturally-driven). I’m keen to see how things develop from here, and am diving right into the next book.

I really enjoyed this one! 3.5 stars.
