A new stand alone fake relationship romance set in the glitz and glamour of the Cruel world from USA Today bestselling author K.A. Linde…
The most eligible bachelor in New York City just asked me to be his fake fiancé.
Gavin King is six and a half feet of delectable billionaire with a devil’s smile that says he knows exactly what he’s going to do to me later. Because he has.
Three years ago, I caught him in the shower and promptly fell into his bed. But neither of us were relationship material. Not to mention I’d just broken up with his best friend.
Now, I’m back in the city and he has a plan:
Go to his cousin’s wedding.
Convince his family that he’s not an eternal bachelor.
Post a huge elaborate break up later.
With those big puppy dog eyes begging me to agree, claiming I’m the only one who can pull it off, I say yes. What could go wrong? Other than pulling it off so successfully that the line between real and fake blurs.
When my family flips the whole script, I can’t see a way out. And I’m starting to wonder if I even want one.

5 stars!
Cruel King is the final book in the Cruel series by K.A. Linde and features Whitley and Gavin. I love fake relationship romances so this one was right up my alley and it did not disappoint. Whitley was Gavin’s wingman for years and then one night they crossed the line. Unable to handle the fallout, Whitley left New York for the L.A. with no intention of coming back. But three years later, she finds herself back in the city and back near the man she ran from.
Whitley and Gavin have mutual friends so it doesn’t take long before these two are forced to spend time together. Since they were friends before, they fall back into a friendship easily; however, a friendship is all they can be because Whitley knows she is bad girlfriend material and Gavin is the most eligible bachelor of NY. As long as they don’t cross the line again, everything will be fine.
When Gavin needs a fake girlfriend to take to his cousins wedding, Whitley steps up. It’s easy to pretend because she knows him so well but pretending is all it can be. Yet, Whitley and Gavin have sizzling chemistry from the get go so when you put these two together as a fake couple, things don’t look fake. It’s easy because it’s not real. Then, her family throws them a curve ball and everything changes.
I really enjoyed Whitley and Gavin’s love story. It’s full of fun and playful moments but also gives us heart and emotion. When Whitley runs into Gavin and you can tell there is something there even if they don’t know it yet. You can feel their familiarity and they have a great time together. I loved how they rekindle their friendship and was so excited when Gavin finally asks Whitley to be his fake girlfriend because I really wanted to see these two end up together.
Gavin looked down at me with that same wicked smile I’d fallen for three years ago before I screwed it all up. I could easily fall again. I was hardly acting with any of it. Gavin and I fit into each other’s world. We always had. First as friends and then as more, and now, even pretending, we seemed to fit just fine.
Gavin and Whitley are fun and flirtatious. I felt their attraction and how much they mean to each other even when they deny their feelings and try to rationalize why they didn’t work out in the past and why they can’t be together now. They definitely turn up the heat when they finally admit they want each other.
From the fake feelings becoming real to the dreaded fallout I was anticipating, I didn’t know what was going to happen with Gavin and Whitley. And when the story takes turns I didn’t see coming, I was already invested and could not put the book down. It was not as angsty as some of Linde’s other books but I am actually thankful because everything that happened felt real and believable and there wasn’t just drama for the sake of it. The ending felt a little rushed but I could see why it transpired the way it did because of the enormity of how Whitley and Gavin felt. We are also given an epilogue that brings everyone in the Cruel World together again closing this series with a smile on my face.
