4.5 “Crazy at first sight” stars!
“You’re my favorite person on the planet”
I absolutely loved Kylie Scott’s Stage Dive series so when I heard about the spin-off series, Dive Bar, I knew I needed to get my hands on it as soon as possible. Dirty is the first book in this new series and it is a fantastic. It is hilarious, making me laugh throughout, and completely entertaining with a great mix of sweet, steamy, and swoony moments. I know when I pick up a Kylie Scott book I will not be disappointed.
The story begins when Lydia gets an anonymous video text on her wedding day of her soon-to-be husband with his best man…doing things that are far from innocent, and she realizes there was a reason her fiancé wanted to “wait” for the wedding night. Seeing the video is a shock to say the least and there is only thing she can do – run! After scaling a fence she finds herself in front of a cute bungalow with a decision to make. One that will change her life forever.
To trespass or be discovered? Not a hard call to make. Call me Goldilocks, I was going in. If I got eaten by a bear, then so be it. At least I’d make a decent-size meal.
Enter Vaughn. Wow. What a character. He’s the owner of the bungalow and is in for a surprise when he decides to take a shower. The last thing he would expect to see when he pulls back his shower curtain is a crying woman dressed in a wedding dress. There is an instant attraction between Lydia and Vaughn, but they know they are both leaving town soon, him to pursue his dream and her to move on from her disastrous relationship.
When Vaughn offers her a place to stay until they leave, Lydia is sucked into his life, meeting his sister, friends, and getting offered a job until she can figure out her next steps. Lydia and Vaughn are fantastic together, and their banter had me laughing out loud the whole time.
“Crap. It’s your first night at work and I’m putting all my drama on you again.”
He hung his head. “Yeah, you are.”
“I’m so sorry.”
Such a long and gusty exhalation. The man had big lungs. Also, bad friends, namely me.
“Vaughan?”
“On the plus side, when you get worked up your tits start heaving up and down with each breath. Magnificent. Honestly, I can’t get enough of it.” Little lines appeared on his forehead as his hands demonstrated the apparently bouncy-boob-like motions in front of his chest. “I’m tempted just to say shit to get you started, I love it so much.”
The chemistry between them is palpable and when the two give into their desires, it is HOT!
“Do not make me fuck you against this door, Lydia.”
Everything inside me squeezed tight. “God, that sounds good. Let’s do that.”
“Shit.”
Before long something shifts between Lydia and Vaughn, and though they both are headed in different direction, Lydia can not deny what Vaughn means to her.
My world was so colored when it came to him. Every detail so vivid and real. He shouldn’t have that power. It would have been so much easier to leave him otherwise. I’d broken into his house, but he’d somehow broken into me, cracked me wide open, exposing me to so much more of life than what had existed before.
Dirty has very little angst, no stupidness between the characters, and no annoying games being played. I love the friendship that forms between Lydia and Vaughn even though they have only known each other a few days, and I really felt their connection. I really loved everything about them.
Lydia was wonderful and I loved being inside her head. She was totally relatable and her thoughts had me giggling uncontrollably. Her character left a huge smile on my face. She was a strong heroine who was not clingy or whiny, and she was mature about her feelings and the decisions that Vaughn made. And Vaughn! Total swoon worthy material. He not only is hot, but he is sweet, sexy, funny, caring, loyal, and all kinds of dirty. Dirty mind, dirty mouth, dirty sex. He is awesome! I loved that he didn’t play with her emotions, he was upfront about his plans and he still couldn’t fight his feelings. I loved that he gave us equal parts sweet and sexy in this book!
“But you’re in me. Have been since the first day I met you. I fought it for a while, but that’s over.”
“You’re in me too.”
“Good.” The tip of his nose rubbed against mine. “That’s good, Lydia. ’Cause that’s where I’m going to stay.”
I buried my face against his chest. Damn tears.
“I mean that literally too,” he whispered against my ear. “You get that right?”
I hiccupped, laughing. “I get that. I want that.”
4.5 stars! LOVED IT!
