Blurb
From the New York Times best-selling author of River of Shadows and Black Sunshine comes a new dark gothic romance duet about how love can transcend the ages, but at a deadly cost.
Is it her destiny to love him?
Or is it her destiny to die?
Valtu Aminoff is no stranger to tragedy. Though many know him as the enigmatic vampire that inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Valtu’s complex life is far more horrific than any fiction could imagine. When you lose the love of your life over and over again, it can do more than break your heart—it can corrupt your soul.
It’s up to his new lover to decide if Valtu’s damaged soul is even worth saving.
But destiny isn’t done with Valtu yet. And tragedy is always around the corner.

“My heart will always find yours”
5 swoony, blisteringly hot stars
Wow. What an epic story! The second part of the Dracula Duet which began with Blood Orange, this is a dark, sexy and intense second-chance-romance, and it was everything I was hoping for!
This book is not a standalone, picking up directly after the breathtaking finish of Blood Orange, showing us the continuation of the crazily sexy and supernatural love story that swept me away in the first book. For the sake of avoiding spoilers, this review is going to be intentionally vague.
I picked up this book full of excitement and was sucked right back into Karina Halle’s gothic paranormal world, and I was instantly captivated by the fallout of all that happened in the last book. My emotions were all over the place as the story switches between past and present, and between two people who love each other so deeply, and so deserve to be together.
My heart was pounding as I read – in heartache, happiness, excitement and anticipation, and I was so surprised at how it all played out. It definitely was not what I was expecting, but it was such a clever spin and was perfect for these characters.
Our hearts belong together because we had true love, and true love never dies.
The romance is there, and it’s so, so beautiful! In a clever twist, we get to see so many different aspects of the relationship, and how perfect these two are together. And oh holy damn, it’s hot! Valtu is a dirty talker and he likes his sexy time filthy with a bit of kink, and the chemistry is absolutely sizzling!
We are primal, we are raw, we are destined.
And though it’s quite the journey, their love for each other absolutely shines, and I loved seeing them find their way to each other.
“She is mine … She belongs to me and only to me … She always has.”
The secondary story lines from the first book continue (though definitely taking a back seat), and bring a creepy horror aspect which adds to the gothic feels of the book, and the tie-in to the original Dark Eyes series is really well done, and I loved catching up from characters from that series again.
I loved this book. It was a wild rollercoaster of emotions, but I was completely mesmerised and couldn’t put it down, finishing it in a day. It’s a gorgeous love story with all the feels, and though she says she has no current plans, I can only hope that Halle gives us more spin-off stories for some of these fantastic characters. But it’s Valtu and his love that absolutely shine, and this love story will be one that stays with me for a long time.
“I have loved you and lost you and I’ll do it again and again because loving you is everything. Loving you is everything!”
