This is a fun little bonus, and an opportunity to spend time with one of my favourite romantic fiction families, the McKallisters, as they endure COVID lockdown.
Set during the early days of COVID, the McKallisters are suffering just like everybody else.
- Jake and Kyle are both positive and are stuck in isolation together.
- Emma is continuing her work as an ER nurse, now on the dangerous front lines while her husband, Finn, is trying to corral the chaos at his family home (and trying to explain why TP’ing a house isn’t a good idea during a nation-side shortage).
- Quinn is trying to find a family member to take him in.
- Keith and Samantha are hiding out at their place.
- Grandma and grandpa, Casey and Kenzie are on home-schooling and entertainment duty for all of the grandkids who are holed up together.
It’s a madhouse, and a very real reflection of the fears, the uncertainty, and the crazy time that was early 2020. But, as always, this family pull together and lean on each other to get through it all, and this quick read made me laugh and made me smile, and I enjoyed getting to spend some more time with this mad bunch.
This is a bonus novella, and is definitely not a must read in term of series continuity, but it’s an enjoyable read.
4 stars for the family fun.
