A small town, single mom romance from USA Today Bestselling author Brooke O’Brien about a woman who returns to Arbor Creek to break free from her abusive marriage and learns to let love in again.
No one ever goes into marriage expecting it will end in divorce.
Every day became a struggle as I saw the man I once loved become someone I didn’t recognize. But for my son, I knew I had to work up the courage to walk away.
Starting over in a small town wouldn’t be easy, but it was close to my mom, and I needed her support. When the perfect home and a job all but fell in my lap, I couldn’t help but feel like I was right where I was meant to be.
Corbin Reid walked into my life like he was meant to be there all along. His devilish smile and his smooth-talking ways are no match to the amazing heart he shows me. It didn’t take long and I didn’t stand a chance but to fall in love with him.
Our secrets always have a way of revealing themselves. When the truth comes out, the happiness I finally found comes crashing down around me.
Will our past tear us apart or will our love bring us right where we belong?
Where You Belong is book 5 in the A Heart’s Compass small town series. Please be aware, this book contains subjects that may be sensitive for some readers, including domestic violence. Each book can be read as a standalone and ends in a happily ever after.
This book was previously published in Corinne Michael’s Salvation Society world. It has been revised and updated as the fifth book in the A Heart’s Compass world.

This story was originally titled Sacrifice and published as part of Corinne Michael’s Salvation Society world, but it’s ben revised and updated as the fifth book in the A Heart’s Compass world. There is some character crossover (our hero, Corbin, is the sone of Callum and Ellie from Where I Found You (Heart’s Compass, #1)) and there is reference to a past storyline, but everything is explained well, and I easily read this one as a standalone.
Haelynn is in the middle of divorcing her abusive husband, and has moved to the small town of Arbor Creek with her five year old son, Huxton, for a fresh start. She is immediately welcomed by her new neighbour and finds a job, and through her new friend is introduced to local police officer, Corbin Reid. It’s a unique meeting, and they quickly develop a connection, Corbin falls fast and in true alpha style, declares his intentions.
“You’ve been let down in the past. I can see it, and I get it. Even if this never goes any further between us, I mean what I say. Give it time, though, and I’ll prove I’m not going anywhere.”
It’s a fun set-up, and a swoony, passionate ride as Corbin holds nothing back in winning Haelynn’s heart. She’s been damaged by her marriage, but he’s fully on board, protective, and willing to fight for her, and she thankfully doesn’t hold back. I loved watching their story unfold.
When secrets from the past are revealed, they do lead to issues that they need to overcome (this is the part with the tie-in to previous books). It’s not too angsty or dramatic, it’s just an opportunity for them to sit back and think about what they want and where they want to be, and to find their way forward.
“I’ll never stop fighting for you, for us.”
This is a cute read. It was a bit too short for me to get fully invested and really feel it, but I still enjoyed this one.
