Jackson Corbett is a gorgeous single dad who doesn’t want complications at his family winery. And I’m the messy tornado who just offered to be his new nanny.
When I show up for a job interview in my pajamas and at the wrong time, my interviewer isn’t there, but Jackson is. He scowls and tells me to take a hike, insisting I don’t really want to work in the tasting room at Buttercup Hill Vineyards.
But I do. Years of sommelier courses and amateur wine-making have landed me here, at the best winery in Napa Valley. I can see that he’s overworked and stretched thin with parenting and a stressful job. So I make a deal with him—if I’m hired by the winery, I’ll work a second job as his nanny.
I can endure the world’s grouchiest dad and entertain his feisty seven-year-old if it means career advancement and paying off my debts.
There’s no risk of romantic entanglement because Jackson is a grade-A grump—albeit a hot and chiseled one—who’s been burned by love. The weight of the world sits on his muscular shoulders, and he spends most of his time worrying about the vineyard’s finances and looking at spreadsheets.
The last thing I’m concerned about is how he looks at me.
Until he does.
I catch him sneaking glances, and I can’t help staring right back. And noticing how sweet he is with his daughter, how his chilly façade is starting to melt, how he lingers longer than necessary when I’m around.
I find myself wanting to help him even if it means spending more time away from my younger sister, right when she needs me most. I’m terrified of letting down the only real family I have.
Falling for him could ruin my carefully-wrought plans and I love my status quo.
But what if I love him more?

This is the first book in a new series by Stacy Travis, set in Californian wine country, where five siblings are running their family’s vineyard empire. It’s a grumpy/sunshine, single dad/nanny romance that is a sweet and easy read.
Jackson is the middle brother, the single dad to an adorable 7-year-old girl, and the accountant for the winery. He’s grumpy at the best of times, but while trying to do the best for his daughter, he’s also dealing with a pending financial crisis left behind by his unwell father. He’s doing his best to manage everything on his own, but he’s drowning in the stress of it all.
Ruby is obsessed with wine, and after years of study she is a wannabe sommelier, desperate for a job at the prestigious Buttercup Hill Vineyards. When she rocks up early for an interview, the first person she encounters is Jackson, and their first meeting doesn’t really go well. She recognises that he’s frazzled, and in attempt to help her chances of getting hired, she offers to be his nanny if she gets the job at the winery. Of course, Jackson reluctantly accepts, and of course, Ruby gets the job, which sets them up for lots of close proximity moments, lingering glances and clenching body parts. It’s not too long before the boss/employee line is crossed, Ruby becomes a part of the family, and feelings start to develop.
I’m at risk of falling so far, so fast for this woman, and there’s not a goddamn thing I can do about it. I’ll enjoy the entire way down, even if I land on my face.
This is a sweet and easy read. It’s a slow build up to actual romance, but it’s a gorgeously swoony, sexy and heartfelt relationship that develops. Jackson falls first and hardest, which is so sweet to see, and though they both have some personal things they’re dealing with which creates a bit of drama, there’s no real conflict in this one. They just have some things to figure out, which they achieve without creating unnecessary angst.
Jackson’s daughter, Fiona, is cutie, and I loved her relationship with both Ruby and her dad. There’s a good introduction to Jackson’s siblings, and the tense situation with their father. There are some questions left hanging about the running of the winery, and I’m looking forward to seeing those storylines explored more in future books.
I didn’t get as fully invested in this story as I would have liked, but I did enjoy it.
3 stars.

About Stacy Travis
It’s a rough world out there, and we all sometimes need a good, romantic beach read, even if we can’t make it to the beach. I’ve spent many lazy days walking the streets of Paris and other gorgeous European cities, and if I’m doing it right, I’m bringing you a dash of romance and a vacay fantasy.
I can’t sit still, so when I’m not hiking, biking or running, I’m playing a very average game of tennis. Background music for writing undoubtedly features some U2, Lizzo, Billy Joel, Pink, Taylor Swift, and Led Zeppelin. Not necessarily in that order. And if I could only eat one food group, it would be cheese. Or wine. Or bread. Are those food groups? Whatever.
