Release & ARC Review: Should Have Run (Lake Spark Inn, #2) by Evey Lyon

Should Have Run by Evey Lyon is live!

The second book in the Lake Spark Inn series, this book is part of Evey Lyon’s Lake Spark world of interconnected series, but you could easily read it as a standalone. It’s a small town, close proximity, single Dad romance, and it’s a sweet read.

Holden is older and a single dad. And due to a favor owed from his hockey days, he’s the man I just moved in with…

The moment I walked into the office as the new interior designer for the man my dad used to coach, I knew trouble loomed. Holden is a retired hockey player who now owns a hotel. He’s also trying to balance his single-dad life. Against all better judgment, when he has a crisis with his kids, I end up moving my suitcase into his guest room due to an old favor I owe. I didn’t expect to be adding nanny to my resume, but it leads me and Holden into our own secret little world.

Where we give in, and we can’t seem to stop.

Lust takes over, and the bond between us grows stronger. Holden might be conflicted by his allegiance to his old team rules and devotion to his kids, but a glimpse of something special nearly tears him apart. Now we’re stuck at a crossroads. Because Holden is looking at me with a realization that a future for us may be too big of a jump. I see it on his face that he thinks we’re in too deep, and if he could go back in time before the lines were crossed between us, that’s probably when he should have run…

Holden and Lexi bring the feels and steam in this age-gap, forced-proximity, single-dad love story. Should Have Run is the second standalone book in the small-town Lake Spark Inn series, which is part of the Lake Spark world.

The second book in the Lake Spark Inn series, this book is part of Evey Lyon’s Lake Spark world of interconnected series, but you could easily read it as a standalone. It’s a small town, close proximity, single Dad romance, and it’s a sweet read.

Holden is an ex-NHL player, and now a divorced single dad to two kids, running an inn in Lake Spark. He’s hired a designer to help him overhaul the place, and she just happens to be the daughter of his old hockey coach. Lexi is much younger than Holden, but she’s bold and sassy and full of snark, and the sparks are firing from the moment they are together.

Despite their age gap, there is clear chemistry between them, and when Holden runs into trouble with his kids, Lexi reluctantly agrees to move into his guest room to provide some much needed help until he can hire a new nanny. It’s not a situation that Lexi is happy with, but she can’t deny that she enjoys the extra time around her irresistible boss, and with the two of them in such constant close proximity, their mad lust for each other very quickly turns into a secret, no-strings affair.

These two are so hot together. They flirt, banter and tease, and they both dive on in to explore their mad attraction, which results in some seriously steamy sexy time. But the longer they are together, the more their feelings become involved. I could feel the shift, I enjoyed watching things change, and I loved seeing them fall so completely for each other.

It’s steamy and romantic, and there’s lots of sweet, funny and sexy moments between them. It’s natural and easy, and though neither of them are looking for a relationship, they’re open and honest with each other about what they’re feeling, and they follow their hearts without reservation as they fall hard for each other.

Holden’s kids are a big part of the story and they are really entertaining. They are challenging, at difficult ages, but they have a fun dynamic and I loved seeing the little family grow together.

Holden and Lexi have challenges to overcome, and there is a little bit of drama, but they handle it well, and I enjoyed seeing these two find their happy ending.

This is a really sweet read. 3.5 stars.

About Evey Lyon

An American from the Midwest, she now lives in Europe where she drinks way too much coffee, types away on a laptop with music on repeat, and stares at her yoga mat that she should probably use again…
