Can two broken hearts make a whole. . . ?

After losing her beloved sister three years ago, Savanna Litchfield has been living half a life. When Savannah’s therapist suggests joining a trip around the world for grieving teens she agrees to go clutching tightly to the unread journal her sister left behind.

Seventeen-year-old Cael Woods is angry. One year after losing his older brother his life has spiraled. Once the most promising hockey player in the junior league, Cael can no longer step onto the ice. When his parents sign him up for a trip abroad no part of him wants to go.

As Cael and Savannah embark on a journey they begin to find solace in each other. As they start to heal piece by broken piece, could this be the start of a love they never thought they’d feel again?

A Thousand Broken Pieces is a beautiful and life-affirming novel about grief, love and friendship.

Review

5 stars!

A Thousand Boy Kisses is one of my favorite books so I’m not surprised that I absolutely loved the second book in the series. A Thousand Broken Pieces features Savannah who lost her older sister, Poppy (from book one) to cancer and she has never been the same since. For four years she has fought hard to pull herself together but nothing has worked. Savannah’s heart is broken and she’s not sure it will ever be whole again.

And there there is Cael. His loss was tragic and my heart shattered for him. He hasn’t been able to move on from the death of his brother. So many unanswered questions and guilt plague him and he has pulled away from everyone and everything that brought him love and joy.

Neither Savannah and Cael’s families know what to do or how to pull them out of the pain they are drowning in so when they both are invited on a trip designed to help with grief, they hope it’s the experience they need to help heal their hearts.

I’m not sure I’ve cried as many tears in any other book as I did in this one. From the very first page I was transported back to the first book where my heart initially broke. I loved that Poppy and Rune were very much present in this story because they brought back all the feels from their love story and then Savannah and Cael added to those feels and made everything so much more. More feels, more heartache, more healing, and more love.

We are nothing without love. So please…just…let it in.

Savannah and Cael didn’t know each other but they were both sent on the same trip because of the grief they can’t escape. This trip turns out to be everything they need after feeling so lost and broken. Savannah and Cael go through so much to overcome their pain and heartache. They don’t forget all they have lost but they learn to remember their loved ones in ways that heal their heart. I love that they both had separate journeys but were able to be there for each other and exactly what they didn’t know they needed. Yet, I also loved that they needed more than just one another because it made the story more realistic.

The healing is painful but beautiful. The journey to piece back together their broken hearts was realistic. It was uncomfortable and frustrating at times but they were not alone. The feels we’re so real and so raw. I cried so many tears but also my heart was so full as I turned the last page.

After feeling the ultimate love that Poppy and Rune felt in ATBK, all I wanted was for Savannah and Cael to find and experience that depth of love. And I feel like their love story is just as beautiful and full.

The secondary characters are so important to their healing and I loved the parts they played. From hearing Poppy’s words to seeing Rune again, and the love of their families meant so much. It was an amazing story that will stay with me just as the first story has. A new fave of 2024!
